Step Notch Flush With Top of Bed
I've static lowered my truck 2" in front and 5" in the rear (springs only) and it's just not low enough. I am now thinking of going 5 to 5 1/2" in front (springs and dropped spindles) and 7 to 7 1/2" in the rear. I'll need to notch the rear, and for strength am looking at step notches.
I want my bed to stay at the stock height so I was thinking of cutting a hole in the bed so the step notch sits flush with the top of the bed and maybe covering it with a piece of brushed stainless. I'd do the same for the diff. Has anyone gone this route? |

Re: Step Notch Flush With Top of Bed
I'm at 6" lower in the rear with a C notch and I have plenty of room. I would think I could get by with 7" with the C notch.
I just built a step notch for a friend and his bed is at the stock height. He cut the floor out for the notch to go through and is going to cover the hump in sheet metal. If I'm reading into this correctly, your wanting to do a step notch Without a crossmember from side to side? Just an arch sticking up on each side of the bed?

Slik:
I don't want the notch to stick up over the bed surface. I would leave it flush. (This would give a notch something like 4" deep.) I don't want to lay frame. Just want to get down to where I like the stance. Thanks, Cris |

Re: Step Notch Flush With Top of Bed
I used a standard notch kit, and with a sheetmetal rearend housing, bed floor raised 1", the rearend housing still would contact the bottom side of the bedwood. I installed an access door for the extra clearance over the rearend housing. I run a 31" tall tire.

Re: Step Notch Flush With Top of Bed
You'd be good with a c-notch in the rear with a 7" drop. I've been running a 5/7 drop on mine without a notch since January and the c-notch will give me plenty of travel. I hit the frame regularly now because I only have 3/4" of uptravel but will be installing the CPP notch this winter.
