The PO assured me it was functional, he is the one who removed the engine so I cannot guarantee anything-

Really, what is the distinguishable difference just by looking at it. Without of course reading the stamping on the back?

8 cyl tachs are 5000 rpms and 6cyl are 4000

Ahh, You are assuming that the tach is in the right cluster. The actual tach has no numbers on it.

I had a factory 6cyl tach and the actual tach face matched up perfectly with the 5 thousand numbers and lines on the clear plastic. Only diff was it didn't say "8cyl". It didn't say anything.

8 or 6 cyl tachs are 5000 rpms. The diesel tachs were 4000.
Either way, that is a very clean looking set-up.
