Step or fleet?
I'm about to buy a bed for my 68 SWB. Which bed would be better for resale value, Step or Fleet?

Re: Step or fleet?
According to blue book the step sides are actually worth a little more....probably because not as many were made.
I think the Fleetside look better and most people seem top agree. I would build whatever you like |

Re: Step or fleet?
I like the step. Seems to make the truck look a little older than it is. Fleets are way more popular and would probably be easier to sell. I'm just guessing here though.

Re: Step or fleet?
IMO... build the truck how you want it to be built, not how the next guy wants it to look. I wouldn't turn away from either bed, if it was a solid rebuilt truck.

Re: Step or fleet?
I was guessing that when I posted this question I would get no hesitancy in the answers. You guys are not wishy-washy. My personal preference is for a step, but I wanted to see if anyone out there agreed with that. I don't have either bed yet, so I can go either way. I almost like the one of each option, except for the storage.
thanks guys..........

Re: Step or fleet?
All my opinion....
When it comes to stepsides, I feel they only look "right" on a 67/68, even more so on a small window 67 because the window goes better with the bed. To me, the sqaured off nose on the 69-72's doesn't really "fit" with the stepside look. I don't think a 69-72 step is "ugly", they're still a good looking truck, but it just doesn't "feel right". The 69-72's look much better with a fleet bed, and I like the 67/68's better with a fleet bed as well (and I own a stepside.) In terms of resale, you're just not going to beat the "ease" and slightly higher price the short fleets bring in. I checked out your build thread, that flatbed is kinda cool

Re: Step or fleet?
I prefer Fleetside because you do get a bit more room, however, Stepsides look great and I am starting to see more short fleet then stepsides, so my 68 c10 swb is keeping the stock stepside bed...
Cheers, Charlie

You said you like the step side, as do I, but then again I am a little bias. I say go with what you want, STEP SIDE.

Re: Step or fleet?
When I look at a stepside truck I always remember what my father used to say about them- He was a bodyman/shop owner for over 28 years and was one of 6 techs trained by Gm to work on the "new" fiberglass of the corvette and cameos when they first arrived on the scene. The stepside was the cheap truck, fleetsides are the more expensive ones. Its weird how stuff sticks, but no matter how nice a step I look at (lowered steps are sharp!) all I hear is him echoing in the background. With that said, fleet is the only way to go. More room, cleaner lines and fit the cab better.

Re: Step or fleet?
I like steppers better, I have a lwb '71 stepper and a '67 swb stepper.
It seems to me there are more fleets out there, but since I like to be different I go with steppers. My first pickup was a '56 f*rd lwb stepper, light blue with a white top. I bought it when I was 16 years old way back in 1962. I use my trucks out here on the farm and the steppers are easier to get stuff out of the bed. Danny

Re: Step or fleet?
This is what happened last time I couldn't decide!
But seriously, I say fleetside for overall resale value, and I generally prefer the look of fleetsides when talking about short wheel 1/2 tons. However, if you like steppers, you're only going be truly happy with a stepper. There are some very good looking stepsides out that bring tons of money too. I'd build what you love - don't settle for what you just like!

Re: Step or fleet?
in this neck of the woods fleetside is hands down worth more. if you want to run any factory trim the step is an issue also.

Re: Step or fleet?
as much as a dyed in the wool stepside aficionado as I am, I must say the fleets are sought after more.
reasoning is because the stepside were RARELY ever highly optioned. very few stepsides were offered with a custom, cheyenne, or sierra option packages. most steps were for the working man, or for fleet services, i.e. highway depts, forestery services, etc. but stepside do look better tubbed, slammed, and pro-streeted.......

Re: Step or fleet?
NOOOOO!!!!! Pro Street cars/trucks are like mullets. We all liked them in 80's, and every now and then we see a really nice one and are in awe (even if we won't admit it), but ultimately, they were just a bad idea!
