78 K10 Build "Hank"

Ive had this truck for about a year or so, and little by little Ive been fixing stuff here and there. This is going to be a slow build, as I just had a kid and I work 11 hours a day. But heres what Ive got so far.

Tearing the dash apart to replace some bulbs and paint the dash pad

Lost the fender flares wheelin on some jeep trails.

Smashed door from more wheelin, the bottom half is rusted through so it had to go anyways

The last time it looked this good

Impressive work. I took every shop class in high school except welding, ha. I really wish I had taken it now.

My compliments to your work...

I wish they would have offered those classes at my highschool. Fortunately Ive had a lot of vehichles to practice on. Enough times of doing it wrong I have finally gotten pretty good at body work.

Great looking truck, at my high school we have a Career Center and we have this exact class, they call it Collision Repair and Auto Refinishing.

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

I think Im getting rid of the push bar and I'll end up getting a stock grill. I'll be working on the interior this winter I want to keep it driveable in case it snows.

Here is the donor, it was given to me for free by a friend. He had a guy painting it and the guy sold the motor and split town.

Your lucky, I wish I could get that for free.

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

I decided not to repair the bed floor, so I got a really straight bed off of craigslist.

And here is the old bed, I just took out all the bolts and we flipped it back onto the trailer.

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

Hey your welcome!! I know what you mean about how the local members sometimes just dissappear an don't say much. Sure will give ya a honk you'll prolly see me in my red and gold '89 thats in my avatar but its been painted now.

What are you going for as for paint for your truck? Any motor plans or anything? If you ever need any help with anything let me know! I'm still learning myself and taking it one step at a time with the '72 i just got. Needs a good bit of rust repair just like yours did in the floors and rockers also but at least i got it running and driving now

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

Where did you buy your patch panel for the rear lower bedside from it looks like yours fits. I bought mine from classic parts and it doesn't fit right inside the fender well. The lip for the wheel arch sticks out farther the original lip i have a few pictures to show what i mean.

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

I got mine from my parts truck. I cut a few more inches than I needed and trimmed it to fit. You just need to trim yours around that lip.

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

why can't some where just sell me a patch that fits... grr i can't just trim it i would either have to completely grind the edge or cut it off trim it and re weld that bit on.

Re: 78 K10 Build "Hank"

You can trim it. Just take measurements from the other side if you are worried. Just draw a line and cut it flush with the existing lip. Or cut the flat part short and blend the area where it starts to curve. You are cutting the old stuff out right?
