Saw my 1st ever LWB Stepside today - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Was sitting in front of an entrance to one of the many new subdivisions in my area. It looked like it belonged to a contracter building the entrance wall. It had a buncha bumps and bruises i could see from the road. They are kinda funny lookin though.

I switched to a stepside on my 72 this winter. The wood is shot (naturally) but I like the stepside look. It has the notched fender for the spare that I need to build a mount for.

I know/knew where there was 2 of the ugly jokers in the same lot...............Went by there today and both of them are gone

theres a 68 3/4 ton one of those here but its a junk rusted out pos, as was another 68 one that used to be around

Those are what I would call "Fugly". What was the purpose anyway? I would think anyone who needed a long bed truck would also want a wide bed...oh well.

I have one. It's REALLY ugly, but for $50, I can stand a lot of ugly.

I know of one close by me for sale if anyone is interested. It's a good solid Alabama truck. I personally like shortbeds.

If my memory isn't failing me too bad,,,,,I think I remember lwb stepsides being used by the government alot. Seems like the forest service and the corps of engineers used them. I can remember alot of dodges being used so surely the had some Chevy's in there. Leave it to the government to use something that wasn't very practical for anyone else!!!!

Again,,,,,my memory may be wrong,,,,,,,,I'm over 40 and i've drank a few beers since I last saw one !!!!!!!! LOL

I like the looks of long steps. My dream 4X4 is a 68 or 69 long step.

They were promoted as being easy for tradesmen to gain access to and load from the side of the box. It's also easier to load stuff from the back because you don't have wheel wells in the way.

I think some were sold as camping rigs because it was easy to load the camper on and off.

The 60's and 70's were the time where pickups made the transition from the traditional step side of the 50's to the fleetsides of the 70's. Sometimes I'm suprised the stepside survives today.
