Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

Is the engine in a Blazer? If so, it isn't the stock engine. They didn't produce any BB Blazers.

The 402 is probably worth more in the truck than out. Anyone wanting to buy it must assume that it needs a rebuild. Since you can get a crate motor longblock with tin for around $1400 (350), you probably won't be looking at much more than $500. The AC brackets are probably worth something though.

PS - take this opinion for what you paid for it...

Not nocking 350's but if I were building a, say a 72 super cheyenne a ready to drop in factory 402bb with air,ps,alt, water pump, starter, factory 4bbl, and turbo 400 would be worth a little more than $500. I was thinking more in the lines of $1500. I figured when I got ready to sell I would make a video, i figured that would help the weary. I may be wrong but eabyers are into spending money.

not to sound like an a$$, but I think $1500 is a little high.
maybe a little more than $500, maybe you should just put it for sale and see?

Sounds like you already had a price in mind, a minimum anyway.
These "how much" threads can go either way, high or low.

Being you already have an idea of what it's worth to you, start form there and see what kind of response you get.

I've had a couple of the old 402's and love 'em, $1500.00 for a complete running motor and tranny seems like a decent price but when buying, I've also been told "it runs great" or "it's rebuilt" or Blah/blah/blah something else that wasn't even close to being true.
I'm sure you see where I'm going with that. Buyer beware.
The video is a great idea.

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

I hope that I will be able to get at least $1500.00 for it. I now we all have heard that it runs great and all the horse crap. I am trying to find me a 5.3,6.0,or a camaro motor as we speak. When I finally find me one I will pull it out and try to sell it. I just want to sell it and help pay back on the ls1. The motor is a great motor, starts right up without a puff of smoke and runs good, just not a power house like I am wanting. If anyone is going to the goodguys show in Nashville I will be driving the blazer from AL to there. I have made several long trips with this thing and have had no problems. Like I said when I get ready to sell I will make a video from a cold start and go from there with a road trip and all. This is just a stock motor though not a tire smoking get up and go engine, but it gets 14 + mpg on the interstate with my 308 gear ratio. Well thanks, I think I heard what I wanted to hear. You can always get the lowdown on something here.

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

I know this Blazer and I'm pretty sure the engine and trans. were rebuilt. Selling parts, not the combo will bring the most money. Just depends on your patience and being willing to pull all the parts.

IMHO 800$+ for all. i would buy it right now for 800$ if you where in phoenix and put it in my 71. the 402 in it now has seen better days and i really dont want to pull it out and mess with it. would rather drop the whole assembly out and put a good running motor like yours in.

Your a subscriber....it might as well be in the classifieds forums..that's where the "what's it worth" threads go..as they lead to for sale threads or the implication anyway...so I moved it here. In here subscribers and non- subscribers can still post once a subscriber starts a thread.

Not ready to sell yet I have not got a replacement. Maybe in a month ot two I will get me a ls1. I think I am going to stick with $1500 for the complete setup though. You know as well as I do what all the brackets cost for these things and what it cost to build a big block. When I get ready though I live in Centre (Weiss Lake) and you could come over and see it run if you wanted.
Thanks, Kade

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

As you stated it is complete ready to install with all the acc. brackets and pulleys, it is well worth the $1500.00 you are thinking about. That said, It is worth that to someone who needs the complete steup. As you can tell from the responses on here some wouldnt pay that much for it, But they dont want it either. The ones that are interested in the combo would be willing to pay. I am buying a 72 that has this combo because that is what I want. It also has a rust free cab, tach dash and other parts I need. But when I am done I will part out what is left of it. I am paying only $2000.00 for it, which some might think is too much but just because they wont pay it doesnt mean it isnt worth it. Remember, There is always a better deal somewhere out there.....You just have to know where to look and be at the right place at the right time!

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

I've been quoted $600 by a repected board vendor for all the factory big block accessories & brackets & $400 for the brackets alone. The accessories weren't on a running motor so who knows whether they would actually function or not.

That being said $500~700 for a decent running stock BB + the $600 for the accessories; add in a T400, frame mounts, exhaust, & the factory PWR steering reservoir & $1500 isn't out of the ballpark for someone interested in doing a simplified BB swap into their truck.

Of course, it would be much easier to get that amount if the buyer could go for a test drive first. Videos can be edited so it might/might not make a difference depending on how trusting the potential buyer is.

If 'e-bay' is the way, start out a little lower & see where it goes.

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

That motor, 72 BB mounts and towers, PS setup, Alternator brackets, AC pump with pullies and brackets, T400, air cleaner with good specs and paint would be worth nice price to me but would need to be close. Should be easily 1000-1500 IMHO. If any of us bought those accessories and brackets they add up fast. That said a whole tired and rusty truck with all these parts can be found once in a while for $1500 but not often any more.

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

If Bob says $1000-1500, it sounds good to me. He knows these a lot better than me. I'd keep a watch on that 402 on ebay and see what it goes for. If you do decide to sell it, you may consider taking it to a mechanic to have them evaluate the engine before pulling it. The video isn't a bad idea either.

Either way, is the engine in a Blazer?

Re: Not trying to sell, but what is a 402 and turbo 400 worth?

Working condition of motor is very important. It would be ideal for plug and play like mentioned above. Videos are killer too. With a little work is can help sell quicker for someone willing to travel 100-500 miles.

Note to self, find that 2 wheel drive blazer and add 402/T400!!
