Is This A Big Issue?

I found a Burb for sale and the owner sent me some pictures and in the attached pic it shows the headliner sagging. Can this be fixed/repaired or is the only way to fix it to replace it as he's asking all the money for the Burb.

Re: Is This A Big Issue?

From most of the suburbans that I have seen that actually doesn't look too bad. I don't know if it is a big problem but it is definately a common problem among suburbans. The only issue is nobody repro's those headliners so unless your headliner is in great shape you kind of have to live with it. Alot of people put in headliners made out of more modern fabrics, but if you are a stickler for original equipment than you might have a hard time finding a "like new" headliner.

Re: Is This A Big Issue?

At least they look intact enough for you to make yourself a new set of panels using those as templates.

Be VERY careful with the plastic bows! They are brittle as heck, and if those are in nice shape you are gonna want to reuse them.

I like the gun rack! I threw away the ones that were in my side window, and I'm kinda missing them these days. Been thinking about finding a set of vintage ones to put back in.

If I get the Burb and you still want them you are welcome to the gunrack(s)

Re: Is This A Big Issue?

I would call that an excellent headliner. If it was my truck, I would use it as a selling point.

Thanks for the info but I'm wondering why you feel it is an excellent headliner when its warped and hanging down, do you know how to straighten it out?

Re: Is This A Big Issue?

Well, all of them I've ever seen are much worse than that. Mine is missing 2 sections and what is left is much more warped. This stuff is flexible enough that you could probably push that droopy area back up. Your priorities may be much different than mine, but the original headliner condition is not a make-or-break item to me. Then again, I had a '72 that had blue and mauve sculpted carpet glued to the roof and I was as happy as a pig in poop when driving it. So maybe I should sign out of this discussion.

If you want a show quality headliner, you will probably have to make your own, as mentioned. Vectorit and the rest of these guys can get you through that.

Re: Is This A Big Issue?

Hey Greg, that actually looks ok to me as mine did the same thing. It takes a little bit of patients to get it to stay up there as I had to loosen all the panells and slide them back just a smidge. the good thing is that it is still all there. hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the support. Yes I'm sure I could probably get it back into shape. I'm sitting here thinking and am about to phone the owner and make an offer.
Here is a pic of the spid. I wish it had more options. Oh yea, its a 4x4.

Re: Is This A Big Issue?

On a side note I was at the cruise weekend a few weeks ago in S'toon but did not see your truck. seen lots of nice stuff out there. I grew up in North Battleford so it was good to go back for a weekend.

I had to work that weekend but I will definatly be there next year as its the 10th anniversary of me buying my pink and white truck at the Sunday Cruise afternoon. I just picked up new strips for the box and this week ordered the wood for the box. I hope to have all in for next years cruise. I'm still haggling on the Burb !!
