Cpp C -Notch 60-62? #6372cnk HELP

Looking to buy a C notch kit. Cpp has a part number "#6372CNK 1963-72, kit". The question I have is why only 63-72? Why would this notch not work on a 1960-1961-1962?
I have a 1961 C10 I am looking to notch.
Would it work on my application?

Re: Cpp C -Notch 60-62? #6372cnk HELP

different frames , 63-72 had ladder bar frame and 60-62 has x-frame...ive only had 63-66 trucks so I cant tell you for sure why, but I assume the frame curvature on the 62 and under is different above the axle area where the notch would need to be installed...

Re: Cpp C -Notch 60-62? #6372cnk HELP

heres a 60-62 x-frame , if you notice its pretty straight on the side rails of frame looks to be close to the same width all the way back to the rear frame :

http://i311.photobucket.com/albums/k...a/IMG_8214.jpg

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1973/060qvx.jpg

and here is a 63-72 frame you can see they are totally different and that the ladder bar frame curves/tapers back in towards the rear so the rear frame width is smaller dimension width then the middle of frame and the c-notchs are made with this taper in them:

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/...23Nov11001.jpg

And that there is the reason the 63-72 notch will not work on your frame

heres a simple pipe notch in a x-frame

If a little notch is needed use 5" pipe to get where you want. Or PorterBuilt has big ones. I did 2"

Ride height. Stock torsion front for now. Have PorterBuilt front crossmember to be installed.

That looks good. I have a 78 crossmember I am going to be swapping, and it has 2.5-3" Drop spindles. Did you box any of the rear frame in after the pipe?

What rearend are you using?

The 62 frame is boxed in that area from factory. Bottom pic shows inside frame.

It's a pipe. Solid and frame is boxed there.

Re: Cpp C -Notch 60-62? #6372cnk HELP

I would only go halfway thru the frame with the pipe notch and also boxing it. I thought of doing this, but I pull a trailer from time to time and worry about the strength after a mod like that.

The 60 to 62 frame is already boxed at that point. Used a 5 inch pipe and made 2.5" notch.

Contact Porterbuilt.
They make all their parts per your order.
They won't sell you parts without talking to you first.
Great product.
Even better customer service!

I don't own a 60-66 truck. But I have purchased many parts from www.pbfab.com for 67-72 and 73-87 trucks.

Re: Cpp C -Notch 60-62? #6372cnk HELP

The standard Porterbuilt arms will work with the adjustable links. I opted for 1/2 longer. The bags are Firestone 2500 but 2600 that are on front might be a little softer. Nate and Dave are great with answers.
I went 1" drop built in, there is a 3" as well.

I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'll definitely give them a call when I'm at that point.
