72 Cheyenne Super wooden tape replacement on tailgate

Wondering if anybody has done this? I removed the aluminum trim piece and am ready to remove the letters which appear to be held on with compression washers. Can probably pry the washers off easy enough but not without damaging them. Does anybody know where to get replacements.? I didnt see anything on LMC. Thanks!

The letters are reproduced in a kit to replace them. Normally you can't save the letters as they are rivited to the applique. Trevor

ok so going back and looking at LMC catalog I see a chevrolet letter set p/n 38-3442. so the letters aren't reusable? thats too bad. mine are perfect but the wood tape applique is shot.

Thanks Tom. I talked to Wes this morning. The replacement letters are plastic (originals are pot metal) Now that Ive taken a closer look my do have some pitting so I may opt for the reproductions unless I found some nice originals. The original letters would have to be drilled and tapped to be reattached.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super wooden tape replacement on tailgate

My brother's 72 Cheyenne was missing a couple of letters when he got it. When he put the new woodgrain on, he left all of the letters off til he could find replacements. I came across the ones he needed on a wrecked truck and he glued all of them on. I'm not sure what he used, but they have have stayed put for nearly 4 yrs.
