I think I remember someone commenting on the difficulty of installing the lower trim on doors. I found this problem today when I went to put the nut on the front stud. The hinge is in the way. I was wondering if it wouldn't be easier to install one of the speed nut type washers on it instead of the real nut.

I also think it would be easier to work on from underneath instead of "from the top". Any thoughts, opinions, pitty?

I've fought that several time before, I think the easiest way would be to mark the door hinge bolts and just remove those six bolts, I know it sounds like more work, but time wise and hassle wise, that would be a good option.

I just did mine a few weeks back. Just remove the lower fender bolt, and while pulling slightly, you can gain access to the moulding clip. Make sure the door is closed when pulling on the fender. It's still a little tight, but you can reach it.

I guess I've got to remove the inner fender also to get to the trim on the fender. I guess I'll just knock them out at the same time. I didn't look too hard, but is the top trim blocked in the same way?

The last time I did it I had to lean in from under the hood. My head was up against the firewall. It was a booger and I don't want to do it again any time soon. I guess you could drop the inner fender out (still not easy). Your best option is put it on with the door closed and the fender off (preassembly). Good Luck!

Ok guys, what about the upper fender trim? Looks like you have to have the door off to get the last nut on..thoughts?

Here is an easier way: put this (barrel nut-NAPA item) in trim hole and just push trim stud into it.

Yes, with the clips described by jhow66 the trim can be removed by prying it off. They work very good IMO.

Ace Hardware also sells those fasteners. I'm glad jhow66 brought this up, b/c I wouldn't have thought of it on my own.

Here's another tip on using them:
I used them on my Cheyenne 10 emblems. (put a small washer on emblem stud before installing--sets it out just far enough so dirt does not build up behind it)

jhow66 - Just curious if you ever had a problem with the clips not holding the emblems on? Just seems like a lot of weight for the clips. I've used a few of them so far but was nervous with the big GMC V-Eight emblems.

No problem so far--been on since 1997. ( for a little extra insurance just put a little RVT in the holes before installing emblems)
