Can I see pics of you DIN radio install?

My cheap shaft radio quit. The least expensive one is 80 bucks and I have a high-end Clarion DIN unit and I think it is time to cut the dash in my 85 dually.

Looking for some pics of the finished project.

when you cut it, mount it so the gap that will be there is at the bottom of the radio, and not the top. they look alright in there so long as there isn't a big gap above it.

I'm not sure what I did differently, but I don't have a gap on either side. Mine turned out perfect except for a scratch where the die grinder got away from me.

Well Ill be damned, i cant find a pic of my radio but its mounted on the roof, between the visors.... theifs look in and see the old AM radio (which still works) and keep walking I really like it, but it takes some getting used to.. and a remote is mandatory! all the wires run across the tip of the windshield and down the pillars and are all hidden w/ trim... would do it again. the box is a special box you can get at like car audio installation shops..

Someone had already done the cutting before I got the truck so I didn't really have a choice to its position.

a buddy of mine installed the radio in the dash vent area right next to the dash, i guess you could say the left passenger side vent, all he had to do was cut a little more horizontal to make room for the size of the radio, but was about the size of the height of the vent

loweredd's dash is exactly what i was talkin about, as for radio mounting, plus as a side effect, even if your A/C does work, reworking the duct of the vents, from 4 to 3 would increase the pressure of the air coming out of the vents, due to the less openings in the system (ie its pretty much the same effect as you would have when you temporarily close a vent that has teh little slider to close it

lets see, 85 had the GM double sized DIN right? personally i think the larger faced newer setups look alot better for the same money or else you can get a standard single DIN with an equalizer below it, they do sell kits that make this easy. As for my 76 it has a plain Jensen knob AM/FM/cassette but the knobs are spaced just right for the factory holes

I did the same as LOWEREDD and have sense changed it back. It will actually limit the amount of air that circulates through the cab. It may feel stronger on the open vents but it wont circulate write. But you also have to cut the dash behind it. It looks cool, but as I said, I went back to the original location
