1968 C10 Custom Cab Project/Build - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Decided to throw up a few pictures of the truck I have been working on. A little background on the truck. The previous owner (my dads friend) had this truck for a while and it had an electrical fire and it toasted everything. He didnt have the means or way of doing the work himself so my dad traded a 64' stepside for this truck straight up and I in turn bought the truck from my dad. Its kind of weird how things work out sometimes because I couldnt find a truck like this to save my life. The truck is SOLID with hardly any rust. None of the main body parts have a bit of rust.

Drivetrain when completed:
SBC 355
TH400
Gearvendors Unit
12 Bolt rearend w/ posi
Full Exhaust

Starting to take it apart and get it cleaned up. He drove it down a dirt road everyday so the truck and underneath are FILTHY!

In the process of filling all holes from the snap on cover :facepalm:

Cleaning slowly but surely! Alot of soot from the smoke was on things.

The roof of the cab was charcoal, but a little sanding fixed that.

This is about the point I decided this baby needs a full makeover.

Actually this is the point because I wanted the truck to look like the frontend all the way back.

So here goes nothing. Dig a little deeper into the project!

Got some POR15 rust paint and started to go to town on the chassis. This stuff is badass.

You guys think I should pull the trim off around the headlights/tail lights and tailgate? Or will look alright. I already took the side trim off so I'm just wondering if it'd look weird with it on the front and back.

Sorry for the sideways pics, photobucket was not wanting to cooperate with me. I rotated them and they still wouldnt load right.

Before undercoat:

(POR15 Rubberized Undercoat) After:

Started painting the underside of the bed with POR 15.

Finished pics:

Now that the cab and chassis are done, we stabbed the cab back on:

Moving the tank in between the frame rails so I bought the Boyd Welding tank (sponsor here):

Thanks for the compliments guys. The main body work is what i'll be focusing on now, this is goin to take some time because of the holes we are filling from the damn snap on bed cover and removing the side trim, but it will be well worth it in the end!! This thing is going to shine like a diamond in a goats ass!

A guy I know makes some pretty slick ones, but I may go with the painless harness. What about you?

The guy that we got it from had already replaced everything suspension wise and lowered it (drop spindles, blocks, etc.). It's got cragar forged 15s right now. I'll eventually go with a 18"/20" Combo and do the rear disk brake conversion.

I used the complete kit availible through LMC. It was ok. I was able to make the wiring look clean because the harness is extra long. only downfall is the ends are a little cheap. It comes with everything you need though. It comes with all relays needed as well as new blade fuses. I did not like modifying the firewall to make the new fuse box work, but is has a lot of option already in the harness such as electric fans, electric oil gauge ect. overall it was easy to install and put together. It took me approximately five days to complete the install (I am not completely done but only lack the headlights). Should finish up in the morning. I have had no issues yet. All of the wires are color coded and labled (made it easy for a newb like me).

Starting to work on the fire wall. I had to go ahead and spend the money on the porterbuilt firewall kit. I saw it and I really like how fills in the other side along with the style lines.

Working on getting the cab ready for paint. Took the doors off.

I need to get some more pics up. The porterbuilt firewall kit has been finished and the cab has the first coat of primer on and has been sanded. Working on filling the holes in the bed and doing the puddy work now.

A couple more pics of the porterbuilt firewall kit finished up and primed.

Pretty close to putting some color on it.

Got the transmission back from the builder. Freshened her up a bit. Going to bolt the gearvendor and tranny to the motor pretty soon and stab that in after we get the cab painted up. We are finishing up the bed, it had a ton of holes in it, but we are almost there on it. Still alot of priming and sanding to get done to make her beautiful again. haha
