Re: Quick Question
Been a long time since I converted mine... You didn't say what you have but more than likely it's a six with 3 speed standard trans and manual everything.
I was more fortunate in that I did mine about 20 years ago when parts were more plentiful. I converted mine to a 350 with 350 auto trans, p.s. and power brakes and had a donor truck to take parts from. motor mounts (I think you can use the six mounts of it's a 250) Rear of transmission cross member Radiator for the auto trans 3.08 rear axle off donor truck (Sixes are geared too low) If there's more stuff, someone else will chime in. |

Re: Quick Question
I like the snap-your-head-back-to-the-window acceleration so I disagree on needing another rear axle.
Any power steering will need new brackets and probably hoses. To keep the alternator on the driver's side you need short water pump, brackets and pulleys. I would recommend a fan shroud since the fan will be farther from the rad and a 7 blade fan with clutch. I've never put a fan clutch on a short WP so it might only fit a long pump. To re-use the 3-speed. Look for a block with the tapped hole by the dipstick boss on the driver's side. It will take a screw-in ball stud for the z-bar. If you choose to use headers, a tweak of the z-bar will likely be necessary for clearance. Auto: Rear crossmember, linkage, column or floor shift, auto radiator, cooler lines, starter for auto trans. |
