Help identify my sbc 350
I've checked the engine up and down all I can find near the bell housing is a "xj4826" and this stamp location under the distributor I've also pulled valve covers and found nothing

Need a photo of the VIN pad. Looks like a 350 1-pc seal block.

Anything on the passenger side front of engine? Right beneath the head.
(Often covered up by the alternator).

If it's not running, and you don't already have a bunch of purchased accessories for a sbc, an ls will give you a,more usable power curve, higher rpm usage, better gas mileage, longevity, and better cold starts.
I don't think an ls looks as cool as a sbc, and the overabundance of these swaps has become both boring and nauseating, but it's undeniable that it's a popular swap for an antequated small block, and when my engine finally crap out, I'm going ls as well. |

I think the 880 block can date back to 1986. It may or may not have had a roller cam from the factory. But even if it doesn't, it may be machined to accept a roller cam retainer plate and roller lifter "spider" bracket. Got that?
Also many 880 blocks were not machined to accept a mechanical fuel pump and pushrod. And the block could have 2-bolt or 4-bolt mains. So, all you really know is it has a one-piece main seal. And BTW, I have found these to be very good castings, even if they are hecho en Mexico.

I'm gonna use a educated guess[rebuilding hundreds of those trucks as my education] and say it is a 87-94 TBI motor and it is gonna be machined for the roller but have a hyd cam. The heads are gonna help a ton if it has 4 bolt holes [for the intake] or 6 bolt holes for the inlet per side. I dont know how prices are in your region but the LS type motors at my place[this is NOT an ad for sale as I won't sell on here since I('m not a paying member and it is not fair to those who do]sell for around $450 for a 4.8 and 600 or so for a 5.3. Complete drop outs with wires PCM and trans can be had around a grand. Of course the 6.0's are a little higher cause of the demand and availability.The small block is the cheapest read less expensive way to go as your truck is most likely set up for it. The stuff that it takes to make one run in there[LS] is gonna cost but it is getting cheaper all the time. Jim

So would it be better to keep the 5.7 tbi engine or put the efi 5.3 in?

The 5.7 will fall right in. The 5.3 not so much.

The 5.7 is already in it whomever had the truck before me didn't wanna wire the truck to be tbi so they put a carb on it but I'm either going to go with fast e.f.I or back to tbi if I decide to keep the 5.7 in it
