Re: what kind of welder you own

I have a century stick 230amp ac 180dc for heavy stuff and a Hobart 135 mig for the light stuff. Keep an eye of gas tank prices, Bought my mig figuring get gas later well the tank went up over $100 increase in 2 years. So add another $200 (for a 40cubic' tank) or so for a tank on the mig if you buy it. Not sure what rental price is on a tank of gas.

I have an old Lincoln 225 amp stick welder that I use for the heavy stuff and a newer Lincoln wire welder for the sheet metal. I also have an older Eastwood stitch welder that a guy gave me but I haven't used it much.

Re: what kind of welder you own

Both of these are my dads, Lincoln Mig and Tig. (I just get to keep them in my shop til his is built and use them)

And he also has a Miller Bobcat on the back of his truck, and a Suitcase welder.

Re: what kind of welder you own

I have a POS Campbel Hausfeld 115 MIG welder i picked up for $50 new.
considering the price, and the fact that my garage doesn't have 220v, it works fine for what i'm doing right now.

I learned to weld with TIG, and that's all i used for years, so this wirefeed welder is taking some getting used to (wire speed mostly).

having a hand free is wierd, it's alot like driving a stick for years, then hopping in an automatic, and your foot keeps reaching for the clutch.

one of these days i'll have the money to get a decent TIG welder

Re: what kind of welder you own

i was always a stick person , where i loved my lincoln . at work we had a little miller cricket 110 volt flux core . worked good for small jobs including my first race car . a few years ago when i sold my 403 powered '82 cutlass , i went to tractor supply and bought this hobart handler with cart. 175 amp ,230 volt, then added the argon/co2 bottle and got a 25 foot pre-made drop cord . i normally run .035" solid wire . i really like it .

Hobart Handler 140 MIG with gas. Works great for all the jobs I do, and before I bought it I'd never welded a day in my life.

Re: what kind of welder you own

A friend of mine has an older (about 5 years now) Lincoln 175 wire feed with a tank that he is willing to part with so he can get a Miller 210. Is the 175 enough power to do 3/8 steel? If I want to do chassis and frame work, will that work?

Thanks.

Re: what kind of welder you own

I have a 175 and just welded up some 1/4" and still had more power to use if needed. I have used a 135 quite a bit and they work great but can't compare to the 175.

Also a clarke en130 gas. Works for everything I need it for from patch panels to mild frame work.

Re: what kind of welder you own

I started with a 225 amp lincoln stick, & got into a SP 100 mig for the tin. the latest addition was a 200 amp Lincoln mig, & that is used for pretty much everything now(except the light tin). I have only run 1 bottle of gas through the new welder, but will say IT FLAT AZZ ROCKS! L

Re: what kind of welder you own

I have a Hobart 140 handler, and an old Lincoln AC225 stick welder. I am happy with this combo so far. Some day would like to break down and buy a TIG and a plazma cutter.
