Been pokin around the forum for awhile now and decide to let everyone see what were workin on.

I was working on a 70 4x4 resto and was thinking about my 68 2wd that I was planning a resto on as well and heres what was decided... I already knew I wanted to chop and slam it but it was also a long bed and I personally don't like the look so I thought my only choice would have been to shorten the frame. NOPE heres what I decided to do.

Instead of shortening the frame, we decided to strech the body. The back of the cab was cut off and moved back 14", I then took 2 good donor doors and choped 14" off the handle side and attached them to the existing door on the truck, got a donor cab (actually I have several) to patch in the floor and make the chop fairly seem less.

At this point the doors are done and we're working on the chop 4 1/2" which should be fairly complete tomorrow.

Feel free to voice any opinions GOOD OR BAD, and recommendation as to what you might do diffrently or things you would do as well.

This will be really interesting to watch as you progress with it. So far it looks good to me. I'll be real interested to see how you do the roof. I don't feel my skills are up to what you are attempting, but it is giving me some ideas to possibly experimetn on down the line.

Is that stretched out cab going to allow you to have some real good reclining seats? I guess that would make up for the loss of head room. That's quite a project you've started. Keep it up and keep us posted!

Thanks for the replys all, its only been a 2 day project so far. Also stripped the frame today to bare bones and will be sand blasting it tomorrow. The frame its on now is for the 70 4x4.

As for the roof it'll only have 1 seem after the chop and strech and its also getting a slight rake from from to rear. The strech was done for several reasons, more interior room as we ALL would like to have I'm sure, and to accomidate the short box.

I'm real curious to hear from everyone what the would like to see do as well or would do differently. At this point nothing is really set in stone and am always looking for wild/crazy ideas. I'll keep this thread updated with pics as progress is made acroos major points.

Great project and welcome to the board from sunny (LOL) Kent, WA! I would be working on my truck except the stinking rain...just wait until after July 14 when summer really gets here. That is a great idea to lengthen the cab. I have seen it in Classic Trucks and thought it was an oustanding idea. I believe it was a stepside truck. He did not chop the top so I very curious to see how yours turns out. Keep up the excellent work and don't forget to post all of your progress for us to enjoy!

Not personally a big fan of chops on these trucks, but this is certainly a very creative sounding project. What's even more interesting is that the cab looks like it had factory cab lights. A rare but rather undesirable option.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

i think it can be a desireable option if the truck is a 4x4...

i defiantly want to see how this turns out.

How are you getting the room for the extra 14 inches? are you chopping the bed down a little or stretching the frame?

I am interested to see how it looks with the roof in place. The chop will be exaggerated by the lengthening of the cab.... the chop might be a couple inches too much for my taste! Where are you going to place the seats? Further back and extend the dash? Looks like you're doing a quality job!

I've always wanted to put on another cab back to back. I thought that would be fun for the kids. My other wild idea is to make a truck with 3 cabs. One in the normal spot, and 2 more back to back looking out towards the side of the road.

At least your wild idea looks doable!!!

looks good I am not so much for the chop but mabe with the stretch. I would like to see that thing in primer and I would like to see the monster door glass.

i'm generally a big fan of chops but today i agree with everybody else on this. most of the time, we want to chop the top to make everything look lower and meaner, but you've already achieved that by extending the cab. to chop 4 1/2 inches now would look like say a 7 inch chop on a standard length cab. however, a rake is still in the cards and will still give that aggressive profile that we are looking for. but if you're doing it tonite, it's probably already too late. While your at it, why don´t you stretch the frame and make a super longhorn out of it. Add 4 more gas tanks too.

I also think that chop might be a little much to my taste. That stepside refered to earlier won the goodguys Texas top 10 award in 2005 didn't it. I don't think it was stretched 14", but it was lengthened thru the doors. however he did his was nice looking... You might want to search the good-guys website to get a look at it before deciding solidly on the chop. although if your into chops, some of those rat rod extreme chops are kinda cool...

Welcome!I will watch your progress.Don`t forget about us.Was the bronze cab off a frame-mount RV?I see the center back panel is a patch.I would like to see inches added to the front clip in this.Just keep on stretchin`.

This one was choped about 2.5" if I remember right and was streatched 8" I think. It looked ok but was almost to that pancake look. I think yours will be way beyond the pancake look but will be very different! Keep us posted!
