aftermarket rear cushion(farm) bumper
Can anybody identify the manufacturer or original paint scheme on this bumper? I have no idea what year it was put on the truck. Very well could have been added when new in 1970. Only marking I can find are few letters like N_W GEN____, may say NEW GENERATION in small stamped letters near the center hitch. It is a cushioning bumper with a big spring under each frame rail and an extending mechinism to help hook up wagon if you did not back up close enough.
thanks, Dave |

Re: aftermarket rear cushion(farm) bumper
Actually, those are popular with farm trucks in Indiana. There several brands that do the same or similar thing. Pulling grain wagons is tough on truck an bumpers. There is a LOT of push/pull in the field, climbing out of the field, start/stop on the road. A truck takes a beating, and tractors are either too slow or being used else where. These type of bumpers dampen the hit as well as make it easier to hook up the equipment.
Dave, you are going to try to sell that bumper if you remove it right?

Re: aftermarket rear cushion(farm) bumper
My plan is to repaint the bumper and keep it. There are remains of white and black paint, but I can not tell the pattern of the black strips. I am hoping somebody can supply a picture of a original paint scheme.
DMI, P & H, and Schuck are names of companies that sell this style of bumper. My brother has a DMI vintage 1980's. I have not seen one with the style of extending hitch this one has, so I don't know the brand. I will try to take a picture with the hitch extended tonight. ERASER5, I do not want to sell, but is there a market for these? Last edited by davem815; 07-13-2015 at 12:49 PM. |

That particular style is what I am used to seeing, with that section that moves. But, haven't been seeing new trucks using them since the '90s. I don't recall the brand

Re: aftermarket rear cushion(farm) bumper
Here is a picture of it in the extended mode. Used for hooking up wagons only, then you back up to lock it in the normal position.
