Body line's just don't match up.

I recently discovered that my driver side lines don't match up. They bed is almost an inch higher on this side while on the passenger side it is perfect. what could i do to repair this i looked back into some older pictures and the same thing was present.

Re: Body line's just don't match up.

so it could be a collapsed bushing rather than something wrong with the frame or bed.

Re: Body line's just don't match up.

Odd things do happen this truck is put to it's limits much of the time, what baffled me was that I didn't see any bends in the frame and the bed looked fine to me i didn't even think of the cab.

Re: Body line's just don't match up.

first thing is take that truck on level ground with the wheels pointing straight ahead and see whats up . uneven dirt and wheels turned will cause some flex to give the illusion

those pics make it look like you're on uneven ground. ...and it being a long bed makes for more chassis flex anyway.

Re: Body line's just don't match up.

I had the same problem for years. I thought I had frame warp. I run across ditches with it loaded. When I decided to retire it and do a frame off resto, when I got threw I was going to take it to a frame shop to get it fixed. When I put it all back together all lined up perfect. When I took the cab mounts off there was a hand full of rust powder that came out of each one. So I think the mounts were so wore out that it let the cab fall on one side and lifted the other side. I would say replace the cab mounts first. As old as they are they need replacing anyway with not much exspence. This may just fix your problem. To my amazement it fixed mine.

Re: Body line's just don't match up.

I had the same problem with my '74 stepper. I had to replace the cab mounting beams; they were rusted into nothing. Put in all new rubber mounts after replacing the beams and complete rocker panels. Next was new bed mounts and realigning the doors on their hinges. Even with all of that one of my doors still isn't quite square. I think that chevy had something of a problem with quality control for a few of the early years but a little fiddling around should get it straightened out. If not, there's always Bondo . . .

Re: Body line's just don't match up.

I noticed today the culprit is the rear driver side bushing. the rubber is almost gone. i will take care of this when i have a chance. thank you to everyone.
