Mufflers/heat/wood bed
With the mufflers within several inches of the wood bed, is it recommended to have a heat shield between the mufflers and the wood?

Yes. Called a tailpipe heat shield. Can be fabricated easily or bought for under $10 through most suppliers.

I don't have any shielding between my mufflers and the bed floor and I have never experienced any concerns. It's been that way for 15 years.

Depends how close the exhaust is run. If its close, I have seen the finish's crack from the heat. I purchased a heat shield for my bed, but I haven't installed as the exhaust is nowhere near the bed. I held onto it for when I do the V8 conversion. Ill have to have new exhaust run and might need it then.

Yes, I read post one wrong. The heat shield could also be used for mufflers too. Any heat source close to the wood would require one.

usually if you can fit your hand between it you're good. you can always cerimic coat or wrap it with header wrap in that area.
