60 dodge truck

well i had picked up a 47 plymouth at the start of the year. didnt do alot to it and wanting another truck to work on i sold the plymouth. looked around abit and nothing really around within my budget. so sufring CL one day i seen an add for a 60 dodge truck, and got to thinking when was the last time i seen one of these on the road let alone at any shows. so emails sent, the owner calls and i looked at the truck. it had the 230 flathead 6/4spd it ran and was actually inspected till the end of this month, but it did have an electrical issue as it drained the battery. but the P.O drove to my place. well i wasnt worried about as i didnt plan on running it anyway. well the m/t got sold just last week and i plan on sitting the body on a gen1 swb dakota chassis. will have to shorten the bed alittle. just not sure on what im going to run for m/t yet. will be getting the cab off the stock chassis with in the next week and on to my dollie to do alittle floor and step work. overall from what i had looked at this will need less work then what i have dealt with over the years. actually i have a few spots on the outside of the cab to take care of but i dont plan on any paintwork at all on the outside, just a few primer spots here and there. ok time for the pics

Re: 60 dodge truck

Sounds like a cool plan. The old Dodges are neat looking trucks.

Re: 60 dodge truck

i used to have one of these, same model, i put a 318 with plans on a 360, if you take care of them they run better and last longer then any chevy or ford. but they are crazy expensive to do anything for them. but really nice find. i hope to find another one in the future, love the weird body style haha.

Re: 60 dodge truck

yes i do. i'll start a build thread of my own soon my dakota was an extended cab so i shortened the frame to the wheelbase of the 58 it's not that difficult to wire the computer to the 58's harness it was just three wires and turn the key and she will start. if you go this route i can assist you

Re: 60 dodge truck

right now it measures ten inches from the bottom of the door to the floor. i have plans on putting drop spindles on it and lowering blocks. i'd like it lower for the kind of truck i want to build.

Re: 60 dodge truck

they fit in the center of the wheel opening i am missing some mounting brackets to install the fenders they are from a 60 the cab is a 58, so i have to make some bracket s and a front crossmember for the radiator support

Re: 60 dodge truck

surfing somewhere i seen that the rad support falls between the frame horns on the dakota, and one pic i seen the guy just made an "L" bracket to mount to the support.
well did a surfing lastnite and i decided to keep my stock frame. im right now in the process of shortening up 6". will be heading back to the yard to in a couple of days here for the 57 cab and a jag front ifs, as it will get the truck to low as i want it and it wil be a fairly bolt in setup with a few mods to the stock frame rails and a couple of brackets. will post a few pics later tonite

Re: 60 dodge truck

a couple pics of todays work. i know it isnt much but i did shorten the frame
6" as it will work out in the end and to me will look better proportioned, plus the stock tank will fit in the stock location. the section i cut out i trimmed down and used on the inside of the frame to bring it all back together. i also got the rear shackle loose and just let the frame drop down onto blocks i set on top of the rear itself, which will be about the drop im looking for in the back. (sometype of notch required). will be getting the front suspension off tomorrow so im ready for the jag clip when i go get either monday or tuesday
