Carb help please !

I know nnothing about carbs so here is the story. All was running great and after sitting for 6 weeks I have problems. It was a bear to start and when it finially did I had to stay on the pedal to keep it from dying. It was running very rough when it finially would idle, but when put into gear it would die instantly. I took it out on the highway and ran it at 60+ mph for about 20 mins. It ran great but when I stop at a light it still dies in gear. I have played with the idle, cleaned up what I could get to with carb cleaner but no help. I am running an Edelbrock 1406. I can`t get the idle ( in park ) to stay constant. When I adjust it to a desired point and then get back in the cab to see how it does in gear, as soon as I pump the gas a few times the idle bogs down and shuts off ( still in park ). Any ideas ?
Also, for a point of reference, where is a good point to start at with the mixture screws ?

thanks
Bret

Sounds like one of your needle and seats went bad during the 6 weeks sitting up
