Temperature Sender

I am doing a 350 swap in my 66 C10. The temperature sender on the original 250 that was in my truck used 2 wire Temperature sender, but my 350 now has a 1 wire sender. I have looked all over for a 2 wire sender for this application, or even a 2 wire sender for the original 250 and have come up empty handed.

Anyone have a part number or recommendation for the original temp sender on the Chevy 250 motor, or even better, a 2 wire replacement that works on a 350 from 1986?

If not, anyone know how to hook the stock idiot light up to a 1 wire sender?

I just finished ordering one for my 327 which I believe will work on the 250. Here is a link to napaonline temp sender. It appears to me the problem is going be for you that the dual prong temp senders are 1/2 14NPT and your 86 350 needs 3/8 18NPT. BTW, mine goes into the top of my water pump. This will at least get you started, someone else might have some more guidance on a work-around.

Jcraig, thanks for the info! That's really close to what I need. I took a few minutes and pulled the existing sensor out and measured the threads and you're right. It's 3/8 NPT.

I will be doing a bunch of research into finding one of these. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Ok, I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but I have extra 1/2 NPT holes in my Performer intake that I have blocked off right now. I think I am going to plug the hole in the head and run the temperature sender that Jcraig recommended out of the water side of the intake manifold. Anyone see issues with this?

I bought the 2 prong sender for the idiot lights (one is green for cold one is red for hot ) from classic parts... # 53-812 with idiot lights , with a gauge it is part #53-811 which is a 1 prong

You could put the temp sender in the intake, but you would likely need to run the early straight thermostat housing, with the sender in the drivers side port. Reason being, the port on the passenger side will be needed for the heater hose. The port on the drivers side won't work if you use the '68 and newer angled thermostat housing, because it will interfere with the sender. You would just need the correct thermostat housing and hose. Somewhere here I have a part number for a hose that should work.

Right on! Thanks for the recommendations. I will pick up a sender tomorrow and wire it up. The Thermostat housing I have goes straight forward towards the radiator and is not angled, so it looks like I luck out.

Captain, I owe you big for the help. A part number for a hose would be awesome!

The part number for that hose is Car Quest #20607. I have not used that hose, I just got that number from member Sillyoldman, some time ago. This is the only pic I could find of the installation at the moment....2nd pic down.
