Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
So the suffix code isn't "tlm". Just lm?

Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
Arrg. I see that now. You had me excited for a second. This is my engine in my 71. I was told it was a 454. Decided to check it out myself. Guess its a bit smaller than I thought.
Still a Chevy! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
Tonawanda, November 08th, 72 Truck L47 402/210 C10-20 w/AR BBC or maybe a 76-77 Truck LM4 400/175 SBC.
Without a casting number and date code this is kind of moot and a waste of time.

Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
Ya it is still a really good engine though. I haven't messed with the BBC that much but I believe you can stroke the 402 using a 454 crank Nanking a 440 c.I.

Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
Quote:
The I is incorrect, this is easy to tell cause there are no letters that would be in that spot, only numbers. So either it's a miss stamp or a miss read. Either way the most likely is a 1 misread as a I. So the code becomes T1108TLM T= Towanda 11= November 08= 8th day of Nov. TLM= 3 different motors depending on the year. With casting number 3999290 it narrows down to one motor, 72 Truck L47 402/210 C10-20 w/AR BBC (just like Tim said) Also it should have a automatic transmission. (M49) It would be nice to see the date code, as a double check on the year. (I also have a 71, 402 listed)

Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
Just did some more research, 3999290 could be 68-72 402/396, so we need the date code to see if you have the 71, 402 310hp or the 72 402 210hp.
The 71 motor could have a auto or manual trans. The 72 motor was a auto. I'm betting on the 71 as the 72 was a prob. a car motor, although some references list it as a truck motor. Check the date code for a definitive answer. I'm betting the date code starts with a K and ends with a 1. Should be 2 numbers in-between.

Re: T1I08TLM - Can you decode this!?
That is a I, it's a miss stamp, should be a 1. On the bright side, no need to get your eyes checked. If you have the protect-o-plate, that code will be on it. T1108TLM. Did you get the date code? It is a cast into the block.
