small block;

Big block;

Look at the valve covers... easy way to remember for someone who doesn't know. 4 bolts on a small block, and I think 7 on a big block.
Odds are slim on stubling on a big block.

Another easy tell is the exaust ports are evenly spaced on a big block head, while the small block has two real close together in the middle and one on either end.

Re: What are pulley difference SB BB ?

Oh I didn't clarify. I need to know the difference between "pulleys" on big blocks and small blocks. Say I was at a swap meet and looking through a pile?
Should I look for differences in bolt hole pattern, size, things like that.
Thanks for the pictures anyway.

you'll find there are a million of each kind.
Grabbing a pully from a pile will only net you a pile of pullies. you need to grab them from a known aplication. I always recomend getting everything you can from one vehicle, or a few that are equipped the same, of the same year/model.

Re: What are pulley difference SB BB ?

That's what I would like to do, but in Calif there are very rare to be in junk yards very long they get crushed in a couple of weeks.
So I'll just keep watching the parts board and keep asking.
Thanks

These numbers are for SHORT water pump applications.Cars used short pumps on bb 65-68. Trucks used the short one 68-72.

Fantastic Turp, that is what I'm looking for. My application is with a short water pump and a/c and power steering.So ya , I will
need double groove water pump pulley and 3 groove crank pulley.
I already have the power steering pulley. The engine is a GM crate and adding Old Air components and using the original 327 power steering pump.Doing the truck stock, but with the 350 instead of 327.

Re: What are pulley difference SB BB ?

What are you looking for specificlly?
Power steering requires an add on pulley. A/C requires a double groove water pump pulley. Etc.
If you want a setup with a/c, and p.s. look for these numbers... (last 3 on the pulley is how they are commonly refered to)
p.s. add on...525
crank, 2groove for a/c...414
w.p. 2groove for a/c...648
These were all off a pickup together.
They used another set of numbers on the w.p. and crank pulleys but are identical. I had those numbers as well but can't find them.
W.p. pulleys are kind of hard to know on sight. Crank pulleys are easy,they have a MUCH larger hole in the center.
There is a guy on ebay who goes buy "Got Pulley". He has been into pulleys since the 80's and can tell you part numbers off the top of his head. Good luck with your search!

Re: What are pulley difference SB BB ?

For some reason I figured you were looking for big block pulleys. That is what the pulley numbers were for that I posted. Small block stuff will be EASY to find. Did you get your truck without an engine so you are missing everything? Or do you have the stuff off of the 327? I'll get some small block pulley numbers if you need them. I'll even measure the diameters for you.
