Found a rear axle a few questions...
Thinking about going 5 lug when I drop my '69. Found a '71 12 bolt w/ 3.73 gears out of a 2wd burb. Gears are good, may need brake rebuild but otherwise it should be good to go.
He wants $350 but that seemed a little high. Anyone have input on the price or what I should offer? I just don't know what it's worth. Thanks. |

Re: Found a rear axle a few questions...
If it has a posi that isn't too bad for a price. Otherwise around here would be maybe $150 max.

Agreed ... Not bad. Supply and demand determines price many times. Plus how often do you fine a factory post?

Re: Found a rear axle a few questions...
Remember that it costs money to drive a distance to pick one up at a cheaper price and the total cost may not end up being less. There are few 67-72 parts trucks where I live in the east. Maybe there is an abundance out west near you. Car rear ends which are more abundant, such as for 60's chevys, go for about $400 for an open, more for a posi.

Re: Found a rear axle a few questions...
If thats exactly what you want thats cheap. You may find one for 150.00 but have to rebuild it, or change gears and the price goes way up. Buy it and enjoy.

Re: Found a rear axle a few questions...
A factory posi is cool... but it's also 40 years old and might need a reclutch/rebuild. $350 isn't too bad for a factory used posi-traction rear end.

Re: Found a rear axle a few questions...
Thanks for the input. I just need to figure out if it's worth the extra money to go to 5 lug. The only reason I'm even considering it is for the larger choice of wheels.
