Looks like I get new paint

Stopped to make a left turn into daycare this morning, and got rearended. The Honda MiniVan (totaled) stopped behind me, the Toyota Highlander (minor damage) rearended the Honda which rearended my 72 C10. Smashed tailgate, and pushed bed into the the cab small dents to the top and bottum cab corners. My paint guys says it should be enough for a new all over paint job. I really felt for the girl in Toyota wrecking her first car like that. And the woman said the Honda was one payment from pay off.

Sad to hear it happen but it sounds like no body got hurt and thats the important thing. How about some pics when you get a chance.

And people say that old cars and trucks aren't save. Looks to me like your truck got the least of it all.
Go Chevy trucks!
Glad to know that no one was hurt. And that sucks about being one payment away. That's got to be the worst thing. Maybe she will get a 67-72 burb? She knows they are safe.

She kept saying "Yours is barely hurt that things a tank". I said Nope just good ol American steel.

I'd love to go back factory blue and white, but don't have the cash to get all the trim so I was thinkin silver w/ charcol top/hood.

I think that old American steel are the operative words.

looking at the pics, i'd say a rear bumper could have helped.....definitely a necessity on a street driven vehicle.

Doesn't seem to be any frame damage. I've been looking for a good used bumper and just found one the before.

Um, I think if you just got rear-ended by two people, you may have some cash coming your way to pay for the trim to two-tone your truck. I'm not saying roll on the floor holding your neck or liver, but see what the insurance says, especially if your kid was in the truck with you.

Then eveyone complains that their insurance rates are high. Go figure.

Re: Looks like I get new paint

Just got off the phone with the girls insurance company. The woman said because its a 72 they are going to total it! I can retain ownership after it has been appraised for per wreck value, and a local salvage company quotes what they would sale it for as is.

per wreck value-salvage value= what i get if I keep it.

It sounds like I'm about to get screwed!

Re: Looks like I get new paint

Sounds like it's time to get a lawyer or see if your insurance company will go to bat for you. It seems that if your truck was damaged by someone else they should pay to have it fixed. I also don't think it should be the scrap value, but the replacement value for the exact same truck. Their insurance is going to try and screw you, don't let them!

Yup, It's sooooo much better to just take it in the shorts and have your truck totalled out by them....

Insurance is a SCAM...period.

Don't let them total your truck, you were rearended by 2 seperate individuals at no fault of your own. You should probably get your ins. company involved...you do pay them, make 'em earn it.

Then again what do I know, I've been screrwed over a couple of times by my ex insurance company...

I was referring to making a bogus claim for injuries.

Re: Looks like I get new paint

My truck got rearended a couple years ago too. Probably about the same hit your truck took, but all I had to do was straighten up the bumper brackets with a few hammer smacks and get a new bumper. The car that hit me had the headlights/grill smashed out, bumper pushed down, and the hood crinkled back, and their core support bent.

Good to hear everyone was OK and i hope everything gets taken care of for you and get your new bumper on there asap

Re: Looks like I get new paint

Contact your insurance company and get receipts of work done to your truck. I had a 79 T/A that got total'd and they tried to give me $900. I had to fight them and ended up getting $6,000, but only after I filed a complaint with the Texas Insurance Agency and supplying all the pictures and receipts I could find. It's pretty much a rule of thumb to total vehicles older than 8-10 years, I think they get a kick back from the government for getting older, less effecient, vehicles off the road.

X2, you can fight their valuation by showing receipts for work done. You could hire a lawyer but the high cost would negate any benefit derived from having a lawyer plead your case.

Hey I wasn't saying anything about making a bogus injury claim, I was just saying to see what the insurance company offers you as compensation. Trust me, I pay more for insurance every month than most people's car payment. I hate insurance companies!
