combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

I am trying to find a cluster for a combo Tach/Fuel gauge. I know they are very rare but I know they are out there. I do not need any of the gauges, just the cluster with the circuit tape. I have all the gauges. I am including a link of the combo Tach/Fuel gauge in case some have not seen what I am talking about. Any input would be nice. Even a way to maybe modify a standard cluster to accept the combo unit would be nice if I can not find a cluster housing.

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

The tach gauge cluster in the link only goes to 4000rpms, Ive seen those before and they should be for a 2.5 ton deisel truck.

Id imagine a C-70 or so having air pressure gauge would indicate air brakes.

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

Yeah, those big trucks have proven extremely difficult to come by round here and the few i have seen have already been gutted. guess i might have to make a road trip south and see what i can find. I already have a 5000 rpm combo fuel/tach i just need the cluster or I might just mod my existing one though Id rather sell it and recoup some money.

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

I have two, one 5k and one 4k. They are out there, but are getting harder to find. I'd have to tear them apart again, but I think the housings are the same between the reg. tach and fuel/tach. Even if you don't have a tach housing, you can cut a small hole for the leads to go thru. Did this to one of mine....

I've got an extra housing up here but the circuit panel sheet on it is shot.

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

just a fyi, there are parts on different sites to complete a cluster, you won't find a tach, but a while back I bought a NOS tach housing off ebay. The guy had about ten of them. I don't think he really knew what he had. The printed circuits can be found rather easily. The small fuel gauge also can be found. I would like to get a 5k tach with the fuel in it, but the last time I saw one sale on ebay it went for like 250 or something crazy like that. There is one on ebay for $500. NUTS! I had my tach(later model) modified with all new electronics by Wilcox Corvette in Jeffersonville, IN. Haven't tried it out yet but came back looking the same way I sent it, except for the new electronic board that they put on it.

Was the tach special order or did it come with a trim level or something?

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

They're made for the 2-1/2 ton trucks that used the square body cabs. They had an air pressure gauge & a tach, so they had to combine the fuel gauge in. I found mine on eBay & then had it re-done to modern internals & all by Redline Gauge Works.

Thats a nice looking cluster. Mine has the vacuum gauge in it instead of the air pressure gauge. I will take some pics when after I finish installing mine.

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

I ordered one from this place http://www.gmsportssalvage.com/?q=node/1316 . I used a regular cluster and cut out the lower warning lights to mount it in. All I had to do was run a tack wire to it. The unit pluged right in where to fuel gauge pluged in. Was really easy. Was Just over $200.00 with shipping but I felt I was ahead of the game than buying a used cluster for over two bills and it might work. This was a good decision for me. Worked out great and I got a 7000rpm tach as well.

I understand you had to run wires for the tach but did you have to mod anything for the fuel gauge to work?

The unit pluged right in where the original fuel gauge pluged in. No wiring for the fuel gauge. For the tach , it came with a wire with the right connector for the distributor. Just run that wire in to the back of the cluster directly to the new tach and your done. Mine works great. But remember you have to remove the lower warning lights to make it fit if you use a regular cluster.

Re: combo Tach/Fuel gauge cluster

Just thought you guys would want to see my factory tach:

Found a clean cluster out of a 85 C70. Swapped the pickup speedo in to retain my mileage, and the pickup oil PSI gauge, and lens. It all works the 86 dash connector circuits all matched up too! Best $40 i've spent in awhile.

For those of you who have used the combo tach/fuel gauge, what are you using for a Brake warning lamp?
