It actually runs!!!!
Well, I was able to make some good progress this weekend. It starts and runs like a champ! It is missing a bit under load, so I hope to go out and check the ignition system today.
The way it should be |

Nothing like getting something to work on your own. Feels good don't it!
Nice trucks you have there, That GMC looks right at home in the garage.

Re: It actually runs!!!!
Great going! Another old truck brought back to life... I bet the neighbors ain't too pleased, though.
I had one call the city on me cause I had my old 69 parked in the driveway unlicensed. Had to move it out to my country property. |

My neighbors are actually pretty cool. One of them said "let's go around the block". Of course what do you do? We went around the block...a few times

Re: It actually runs!!!!
I do have a question about the miss. It still has points, and I'm only familiar with the points systems in VWs. Do they slowly go out, or is it an all or nothing thing?

Consider trading out the dizzy for an HEI unit - huge upgrade at a small price. I got a new one on Ebay for around $75.00.

Re: It actually runs!!!!
I actually have one from my brother-in-law's 400 SB. I just bought a new cap, rotor, and coil for it. So I may just swap it out.

It is not rocket science, and someone with limited knowledge of car electronics can do it, (like me). Oh yeah, did your give you the spark plug wires?

Re: It actually runs!!!!
No, I was going to replace the plugs and wires as well when I do this. I've been searching for tips on this swap. Is there an FAQ on this?

I learned about this problem the hard way, by frying an MSD module and had to have the truck, flat bedded home. That was about a $120 lesson
