Re: how can i repair my caved in hood
If it's the typical dip in the center you can fix it the way I did mine. I just picked up a couple extra sets of hood braces at the junk yard and added rubber strapping to “push” the low spot up where it belongs. The braces are very light and have had no effect on the springs holding the hood open. Lack of suitable bracing is why these things droop in the first place. If it's caved in enough to stretch the metal it's going to require shrinking to repair, which requires a torch and some talent/experience.

I'm hoping to get by with one down the middle.

Old 1966 GMC:
I have the same issue. Here is the best plan for repair that I have found. See Phil V's response in this discussion: http://autobodystore.com/forum/showt...ht=impala+hood Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Re: how can i repair my caved in hood
I had a dip in my hood. Not sure if it is to the same degree, but I grabbed a benzo and heated it lightly and Pop! no more dent. Lol
Not saying that's a god idea for a painted hood, but mine was down to bare metal at that stage.

Re: how can i repair my caved in hood
Depending on the size of the bow in the surface, one down the middle might well solve the problem. I just used a bunch because I had a pile of them and they weigh very little.

Re: how can i repair my caved in hood
Is that chain you have hanging from your hood kind of a safety catch?

Re: how can i repair my caved in hood
probably a lock chain so no one steals the battery.
