64 SWBSS rear axle length and tubing
Hi all!
Ok, so I've been looking at rear axles for some time now.. one problem that has always put a wrench in the decision making process ( ok well maybe 2 )... keep the small block or go big block.. and how much to tub in the rear with out looking too pro street. So I think I've made up my mind to go big block. But even if I don't I'd still like an un-killable rear that can run either down to mid 12's ( unrealistic but it's a goal with some fudge factor for strength) So since I want to tub the rear ( small tubs or what is required for the tire / rim) and run a wider tire.. what length of axle to get? I was thinking of going the ford 9'' route through Moser as they have a 2 day turn around time and have everything welded on when you get it, custom width at no extra charge.. and it's a good name. I was thinking of running a 16-15X10 or 12'' .. is that too excessive? I don't actually have the tires next to the truck to check it out.. just what I've been thinking about.. I don't want to modify the frame at all or move trailing arms.. So I'm looking for some pics / some info from people that might have thought about the same thing or done it. Thanks! Alex |

Re: 64 SWBSS rear axle length and tubing
The first thing you need to do is get the actual tires and wheels you are going to run. Then once you position them at the overall outside width you want, then you can get the WMS to WMS (wheel mounting surface)measurement that you will need. Then you build your differential to that measurement. You might get a better response to this question over in the 'Racing and High Performance' section. You could contact a mod and see if they would move it for you. There are a few guys over there that are running wide tires with the trailing arms.

Thanks Capt. Fab! I've never tubed a car before so I haven't really been sure how to go about doing it. That makes sense. I might have to find that mod now.
