Rare '72 Blazer?
I have a '72 Blazer that has a lot of options. I am about to start restoring it and have talked to quite a few people in my area. This is the most options they have seen on one. I am just wondering if it is rare or not. This isn't a Blazer rich environment, so it might be very common. The less common options are air, tach, and 4 speed. It is also has the CST option. They are all factory according to the build sheet in the glovebox. Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
Welcome to the board, as far as options go it is hard to say whether or not it is rare. In 1972 there were 42,000 plus 4x4 1/2 blazers made
No dooubt that there were fewer higher optioned trucks but really hard to say for exact

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
Post some pics of the glove box sticker when you get a chance. The 4speed should be the standard with the auto being an option. It certainly sounds like an excellent truck to start a resto project. Can't wait to see more photos.

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
You can get stats on how many were made for each year and what the base was at http://coloradok5.com/specs.shtml.

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
Options on Blazers were not as uncommon as trucks. You find a lot more Blazers loaded with auto, tilt, air, am/fm, tach's, CST etc. then you find trucks. Huck

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
By`72 there were a larger percent of CSTs compared to lower options. They had caught on.The 4spd is an option with 3spd being standard. The rarer options would be skid-plates,tow hooks,16" or 16.5" wheels/tires,posi front,to name a few.

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
Even if they made 42k in 1972, they are rare on the road today
I can drive around for a week in my area and only see a handful of blazers, that includes the 73-87's too Scarcity is different than rarity though -- as a lot of these trucks rusted out, or got crushed or are still sitting in the back of some farmer's field

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
Very good points streetstar. "Rare" is realitive. There were fewer than 80,000 Blazers made between 69-72 (A small number compared to the production runs of today). Of those, I'm sure a large number have met their demise in one way or another. There seems to be more on the west coast as rust isn't as big a factor. Of the remaining Blazers, a 72 CST isn't necessarily "rare." A zero option truck, although less desiriable, would probably be more rare.

Re: Rare '72 Blazer?
I haven't seen too many CST Blazer with 4spd with factory AC. I think it was more common to see AC CST Blazer with auto trans. Good luck with your new Blazer and post some pictures when you can.
