Valve covers...

On the 67 GMC I bought Friday, the 305 under the hood has Mickey Thompson valve covers on it. The good old "M/T" in the middle and Chevrolet printed on the knockout for the breather hole. Never seen these before. Are they rare or am I just sheltered? THX

I'd love a set of those but almost impossible to find in the UK.

Sheltered. My friend threw away 3 sets last week. I particularly like the new raised Chevrolet ones myself, but then again the MT's you have look better than my chromies.

Why in the world would he just throw away three sets of these velve covers?? Does not make any since. I also have a set on a self that I was going to put on a car I had some years ago but sold the car before I put them on. Threw away 3 sets? Does he have anything else he wants to throw away. Give me a yell first. These are classics.

Had those on my first car(68 Firebird) in '77. I actually have a chrome dipped pair on the 454 in my boat.

I would never toss a pair as old Mickey isnt around any more.

They are a quality part though...pretty much any cast alluminum cover is better than steel.

I can not believe 72wascal did not get these but also let them go? This just rattles my brain. To just throw them in the trash. Just do not know what they were thinking.

Wish I could find a good set of valve covers for a centerbolt application that will fit with my stock exhaust manifolds. Every set I've tried I've had clearance issues with the manifolds. Anyone else with centerbolt covers have any ideas? Maybe I can shave down the upper tabs on the manifolds?

I have centerbolts and stock manifolds. Shave the nibs off the manifolds. It only takes a few minutes. Now, they clear by a mile.

Dude, why would I want SB valvecovers for a BB? He was cleaning up after the sale of his house, (no room I guess) and they looked pretty trashed anyway (fins were chipped). I'll keep an eye open, just didn't know anybody was interested.

Re: Valve covers...

I just won me a set on Ebay, now I've got to wait for them to make their way from the USA across the Atlantic. Any reccomendations on filler cap/breather/PCV etc as I want it to look good. Will it be worth having them clear powder coated after being vapour/bead blasted to keep em shiny. They've got to look better than the rusty old chrome holley ones that don't match anything else on the engine since the Holley carb was replaced with a Carter.

Re: Valve covers...

I have a set if anybody wants to buy them. (Since you all seem to like them so much :P)

I like them too, but I think I'm going to get Holley ones. Mine are the OLD OLD OLD ones, the chevy logo is a bit different than the newer ones in these pics.

I had them bead blasted, but they do have a bit of pitting thanks to the age (and probably sitting outside for a few years!).

Re: Valve covers...

They Are Still Making Them. I Saw A Set For Sale In One Of The Local Auto Parts Stores Less Than A Month Ago. I Believe It Is A A/c Delco Superstore Here In Carson. I Have No Idea On The Price. If Someone Is Seriosly Interested, I'll Get The Address & Phone Number. If They Are So Rare & Desireable , Maybe Someone Should Jump On These. (maybe They Are The Last New Set In Existance. Just Maybe) John

Right, ive seen these in jegs and summit. but they only thing is that the new ones dont have "chevrolet" stamped in the knock out. That is why i think that the older ones are more disirable
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...chItemId=24959

EDIT i just realized that they are moroso not the M/T
