Project: "just a little rust repair, turned LS2 swap"

I originally got this truck when I was 15 for $200 and it was nothing but a cab and engine (the big 250 inline 6) sitting on the frame, My dad and I put it all back together and I drove it a few years then we decided to put a 327 and 4 speed in it that we had. I drove it like that from 2005-September 2011. So last fall I took it apart to replace the cab corners and rocker panels along with some other rust.......

Re: Project: "just a little rust repair"

........Which turned into a lot bigger project, My grandpa had a 1991 C4 Corvette suspension out in the barn and decided we should put that in my truck.
Now it has turned into a full blown project.

Re: Project: "just a little rust repair"

With some help from an old friend and neighbor it is now a short bed, actually 112" wheelbase instead of 115", has a full 1-3/4" and 1" round tube chassis.

That tube frame is super sweet, I was wondering if anyone is doing something like this... Do you know the weight comparison to the original frame? Sweet build by the way very inspiring!

Thanks man! You know thats something I was always going to try to do as this build has went along but I never did it. But before we welded everything together one of the frame rails was really easy to pick up and move by yourself, but since then we've added all the bracing between the rails and around the rear differential. When we tear it back down for paint I'm going yo try to weigh the stock rolling chassis and the new one and see.

Re: Project: "just a little rust repair"

We decided the old 327 and 4 speed didn't quite fit anymore so its new power plant is a 6.0 LS2 and 6 speed out of a 2005 Chevy SSR

Well now that I've got the LS2 and everything hopefully be doing some test driving in a couple months and then tear it back down to get it painted. It will kind off have the pro-touring vibe now.

Re: Project: "just a little rust repair"

We cleaned up the fire wall, cut off the drip edge and moved it back about 1/2" to change the look. And had to make a big old recess in the fire wall and a tranny tunnel.

It's funny you say that! I just saw the Tim Cameron videos on youtube for the first time a couple weeks ago, his buggies are amazing.

Thanks guys! I can't take credit for all the work because I have a very talented friend helping me with the fabrication but I'm getting a very good instruction.
