72 radiator

What is the tallest radiator that will fit in a 72 C10?

Re: 72 radiator

If you have a V-8 already, you have the tallest radiator available already, which is, I believe, 19" tall. You would have to buy a later model radiator core support to get a taller radiator installed. You can go to as many as 4 rows in brass.

Re: 72 radiator

Putting a new L83 in my 72 and have managed to get a lot of OEM parts from donor truck which fell off a rail car with 2 miles on it. It was my thought to get the radiator and fan set up since the fans are a PWM controlled setup. I think the radiator is 17.5" high and 33-34" wide. I can rework the core support in order to install this unit.
Was wondering if anyone else had tried this???

Re: 72 radiator

I’m thinking about doing the same thing since that radiator and fan are designed for this engine. My L83 from a Silverado is the first year (2014) so I can’t say that your cooling system is the exact same as mine but, the dimensions are bigger than you estimated. Here are pics of the radiator , trans cooler and fans. Considerably wider than my 72’ for sure.... 39.5 wide and 17.5 tall. Plus, I really don’t want to drop another GRAND just on a cooling system (Entropy). I know they are “works of art” and real purdy but I can’t see it while I’m driving!

Re: 72 radiator

Through the auto yard I got my engine from, they want $550 for the rad and fan setup off of a 2019 Silverado. I got the OEM fuel pump and ecu. I got all the fuel lines for a shipping charge. Got the OEM cold air intake and filter box. Only thing I need to figure out is the fuel tank that will accept the pump. Not looking for show quality, those years are behind me. Let me know how you deal with that 39.5".

Re: 72 radiator

I would be interested in seeing how you installed your cold air intake and filter box. I have those components but just assumed I would need to get something aftermarket, but I'd rather stay as much GM as possible. In regard to your fuel pump fitment into the tank, what tank are you using? Have you checked out Swaptime on Youtube? Mitch has done many L83 swaps and is really helpful. He has several videos related to fuel pump / tank / and fuel line solutions, and seems to make these kind of problems easy to solve.
