Hi, folks. Would anybody have a photo of a factory-installed spare tire carrier on the bed? Was it originally left or right? thanks for any info.

May be a dumb question, but do you mean inside the bed, or out on the step side fender?

I think from what I can recall any I have ever seen with a spare tire either in or outside the bed were on the drivers side. I guess it was so it wouldn't get in the way of the drivers vision?

If I remember right, the inside the bed carrier was on the driver side. But, it's been a while...

My 70 had the spare tire carrier on the passenger side of the bed.

Some Fleetsides came with spare tire carriers locate in the bed on the left in the front of the bed.

Most fleetsides I have seen with that option had it towards the front of the bed on the driver's side. Supposedly it creates less of a blind spot there.

Wow, I mean wow. Nice one. Seems the placement depended on the customer's preference. 3 photos with 3 different locations. But the blind side argument seems logical.

Coool Pic! Looks like a 'vinyl' roof, too.
Wonder if the tire was moved because he put the tonneau on upside down.

front left on my 72 chev. i moved it to the front right side of the box.

weight distrubution I'd go Passager side. Or get CAA and forget it.

Has anyone thought about the idea of using a spare wheel well, inverting it (and closing off the open side) and then mounting it into the floor? The idea would be to allow the tire to sit below the bed rail and in a area that doesn't get a lot of use. On a long bed, the area in front of the wheel well would be a perfect spot.

Just an idea I have had rolling around in my head for years.

67 long fleet. mines on the driver front. never been relocated. anybody got pics of the hardware thats supposed to mount the tire to the bed piece?

My 72 has the spare tire in the back on the passenger side also. I don't know if it's factory or not.

Mine is on the drivers side on my 71. No hardware and I usually run a tool box so it doesn't get used much of the time.

When I bought my truck there was one on each side in the back.

I have thought about using a wheel tub, upside down in front of the current tub; just haven't gotten that far.

Does anyone have a picture of that setup?
