Is there a trick to getting out of the dash. I removed the screws but can't get it past the top of the opening and steering column. Do I need to loosen and lower the steering column?

yes sometimes you will need to do that to get one out

Did you disconnect the speedo cable, wiring, and oil line? If it has a factory tach, you may have to lower the column to get it out cleanly, otherwise not.

Once you are certain all the wires,lines and cables are disconnected it should come out

Wiper/headilght swithc?

Wipers have a little screw that you gotta remove (this side of the dash)

Lights have a 'button' on the top of the switch behind the dash you gotta push down and pull the switch out from this side of the dahs

I've had some trucks over the years that I had too let steering column down to get the gauge setup out. They weren't tachs just regular gauge setups

Thanks for all the responses, but is not the harness, oil line, speed-o cable, light or wiper switch that is preventing me from getting it out. The bottom of the guage panel is snug against the column and the inside metal gauge housing of the gauge panel is catching on the top of the gauge panel opening on the dash. I hope this description gives a visual of the issue.

I remember having the same issue before I had all the gauges hooked up.

Just a couple of bolts will drop the column enough to get it out. You shouldn't have to drop it all the way.

I've had the same issue.
Spent alot of time prying, wedging, squeezing, and cursing trying to remove and install gauge panels. Even used a bottle jack once! I never thought about lowering the steering column back then.
My most recent project, removed a couple bolts and let the column drop a little bit.
Gauges then pulled right out. Piece of cake.
Wish I had Internet and this site 20 years ago!

I drop the steering column and let it sag every time. Remove the metal cover, then 2 bolts for the support hoop. Easy and prevents scratching your gauge bezel. I know, because I have pulled my cluster so many times because I am too cheap to buy all new gauges at once, so over the years I have replaced them all.

Well, I had to remove the Ebrake handle, its attachement bracket, the U clamp holding the column and then let the column hang free, to get the gauge panel out.
