Carb rebuild kit

Based on the advice I've received here, I've decided to spend 50ish bucks to rebuild my carburetor rather than spend 250 bucks on a 50/50 chance with a Tawaiin rebuilt unit. What kit do you guys recommend? I want one that includes the accelerator pump and any other moving/working parts inside, not just the gaskets. Do the kits autozone, etc, sell include the accelerator pump? Any imput is appreciated.

To tell you the truth, I've bought a bunch of kits for Q-jets over the years from several different makers. There isn't much difference in quality from one to the other. The ones I've seen and used all looked about the same.

It will come with every thing you need to rebuild it but they don't come with floats. The new floats are not the hollow bronze like the old carbs used to have. They would get pin holes in the them fill with gas, causing the float to drop and use too much gas. The newer float are solid and don't get gas soaked. You wouldn't really have to replace these floats, but if you do, you will have to buy it seperate. I think they are about 8 bucks by themselves.

Don't forget to buy some carb dip cause the cleaning is 90% of how good the rebuild will be. Check the throttle shafts to see if they are worn excessively. Also check the air horn to see if it warped from over tightening.

Thorsen makes a good kit.. And i suggest getting a brass float Those neoprene ones are junk

Ill tell you how to test them thou Place the float on the floor and then stomp your foot on it If it leaves a wet spot its bad
