Went out and walked one of our older junk yards today and found about 14 old and very rusty 67-72 pickups. The problem is the owner is retiring and everything is going to the crusher on Monday March 20. I did find 2 short box step sides that are rotted away, but I'm wondering if its worth while to save one of them just for the frame. They still want about $250 for the truck and there is very little of use on it. Did have a nice step side gate with dents but no rust. Don't need another project at all, just hate to see things get crushed. Are shortboxes getting that hard to find or do I need to save this to preserve the specises.

Wow, 17 trucks in Canada in one junk yard, that's awesome, I say save them all, get titles and then sell them with the titles for those looking for an original short frame and title. I just sold one with no cab, part of the step bed and a good title for $750.00,

If they are 68+ coil frames and not rusted to death please save them...I will buy at least one from you. Not having to cross %$#^% customs with just a frame will save me a whole lot of hassle. As long as the frames will clean up OK with a sandblaster they are worth having.

If you have a place to store it...do it. Saves the hassle for anybody converting a long box etc, etc. If they have clean titles that would be even better well for someone like myself who is very proud to have a Canadian Survivor. Mmmmm...Clean canadian title/southern rust free sheet metal. Sounds like a great combo to me!

I drove 700 miles round trip and with expenses included paid about 700 bucks to get a 2wd short leaf spring frame with very crappy box (I did get 500 for the box though). I got it just North of The Pas Manitoba. I'd say hell ya save em. They are impossible to find here.

There is a yard in Ontario that is going out of business this spring as well, unless your are talking about it. My father in law and I where through it in November and there where LOTS and LOTS of our trucks in it, unfortunatly they have been well picked over. It is getting crushed out as well.

well I looked at the 2 shortbox stepsides at the junkyard today, and the one has been there too long because rust has got at the the top of the arch above the rearend and left holes. The other frame was high and dry, but the rain and rotting wood of the box sitting on the frame have left some scaling rust on on arch and pitting on the other. Also one frame cab mount is rusted around the bolt hole. Has anyone drilled the rivets out and replaced a mount with a better one?...
The only other parts of use on this truck is a good hood, some grill pieces and a 6 cyl in one piece.
Is it worth the $200 he wants?????.....I have to trailer away the whole truck and junk most of it.

At least I scored a few other things today.....2 hoods, (a '72 in good shape, a '67/'68 with nice lip chrome and chev letters, but rust under the front lip) and a straight, rust free stepside tail gate with a few dents. All for $100.

Also grabbed 3 glove box doors, 2 OK dashes, a side window and a ashtray for $35. Just grabbing items loose in the truck cabs.

kanuck, I have been through this yard before, most of these trucks have been picked clean for a long time. I have looked at those frames, I was worried that the one closest to his shop was tweaked, just the way it has been lying on the ground. The other is a leaf spring frame and like you said, not in the greatest of shape, I just wasn't interested (I have a '69 shortbox parts truck with a great frame so I am not desperate for one). Glad to hear you grabbed some parts before things get crushed, but I can honestly say that not too much of value will be crushed, all of the good parts are long gone.

I have not visited many junkyards in our area, do you know of any others with our trucks in them?
