I reread your prior post and don't quite follow how you have your dizzy wired up with the diode. Suspect something there. Someone suggested ditching your points and goin HEI and I agree.

I'd toss an HEI in there, and run a new wire from the fuse box to the dizzy.Don not use the diode, problem should be fixed.

If you still have hte points in there, you could swap out the condenser, that's how they act when they're bad.The HEI would be by far the best deal.

Im assuming that by dizzy you mean starter? the starter is wired as follows battery to bat terminal and then i have a brown colr wire wich i dont know where it leads but its there then its spliced with a diode between the brown and in comes the r cable from the cab on the other side of diode i wouldnt know why you need the diode but in the starter instructions it tells me to use it if the strter doesnt have a R terminal this diode leads to the Plus side of the CoiL

Sorry......... Dizzy=Distributer. I'd hafta check out your stuff in person across a diagram to figure it out. I don't know the purpose of the diode in that circuit. Maybe it's a resistor? That would make since to drop voltage prior to points if there is no resistor wire being used. Condensors purpose is to prevent arcing in points to prolong their life. Am unable to confirm or deny that a bad condensor will cause a run-on condition.

his diode thing is OK, There is no R terminal, so he has the yellow coil wire on the starter wire (should be purple) and when the key is turned, the purple is powered, and the yellow is stacked on it so it gets powered too. Then, when he lets off the key, the resistor wire tekes over, but it'll send the 9 volts down the yellow wire. The diode...a one way check valve if you will, prevents the 9-ish volte from hitting the S terminal. And prevents the starter from staying engaged.

As for your stereo...does it stay on at low volumes, and shuts off when you have it cranked?

I understand now, Longhorn. Thanks. Man, I'm still tryin to figure out what the symptoms are! I think he is either having a run on condition that happened to act up after his stereo install or his motor is dying shortly after he starts it. Am I just dense?

Is the engine stalling, or is the radio shutting off on it's own, or does the engine cough and fart and sputter when you turn off the engine?

does it sputter and die, or does it shut off as if you turned the key to the off position?

That shouldn't be a problem.I'm running a Deck,150 watt amp and have no problems.

The starter shouldn't be pulling anything once the truck is running.
Does the truck run with the stereo off?
Where are you getting power for the stereo?
And is there power to the coil/dizzy the entire time?

Someone holding a probe tester on the positive side of the coil while th truck is running will answer the last question

Have you tried to run a new power source for the stereo.Maybe it's a bad terminal in the fuse block or something

Do you still have the pointys in it? If so check hte condenser. It the little silver cylinder inside the distributor.Change it out,it's a couple of buck, see if that helps.

If you're using the HEI setup, could be module going bad,or you need to run a power wire to the distributor.

Also pull th cap,and see if the wires running into the distributor are shorting out somewhere along the way.
