82 305 carb intake and cam ?'s

I've recently purchased an 82 chevy pickup with a completely stock 305. I'm looking to be rid of the spaghetti filled engine bay with a new carb and intake set up. I'd like to "upgrade" the cam at the same time so I can squeeze some more power out of this sbc. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the site. Call a cam manufacturer. They will give you a recommendation based on your drive train. Do you have to pass emission testing? All you need is a PVC line. Everthing else can come off.

Re: 82 305 carb intake and cam ?'s

Thanks! The truck will not need to be smogged so I figured the restrictive stock stuff could be done away with. It's going to be frequently driven so I'm not looking for anything too crazy. I found some stuff on a cam from CompCams that's supposed to go well with the 305:

I was gonna pair that with an Edelbrock 600cfm carb and performer intake. I'll give Comp a call and see what they have to say. Thanks for the response.
