Need help w/71 C10 project
I got a 71 C10 to work on as a project. The people I bought it from put in a Chevy 305 engine w/auto transmission, taken from an 85 (or so) Camaro. I am not thrilled about it being converted to automatic, but will live with it for now.
The carburetor is a Quadra Jet, which has a Mixture Control Solenoid, so my understanding is it won't work well without a computer hookup. What's the best manual choke carburetor to get for this truck? Also, if I were to switch engine or trans, what's the best combo to get? Thanks! |

Welcome to the board!! As far as the replacement engine/trans combo, there are so many different options it is hard to chose! Also, personal preference has a lot to do with it. Personally I like a big block and a TH400 trans...For a carburator, I like the edelbrock carbs. I have had very good luck with them.

There are a number of choices, like the man said. Earlier Quadrajets, from around the time of your truck would work well. They should bolt onto your manifold. Manual choke conversion kits are available from a number of sources. If you go that route, use a quality rebuild, not something off someone's junk pile. Probably be more trouble than it's worth.
