Double Hump Crossmember

Been thinking about edoing the exhaust on my truck soon, and while I'm at it I figured I could replace the trans xmember with a double hump version. What are the cons when using a double hump xmember with a lowered truck with headers? The only xmember I could find on ebay was this one, says for a 4x4, this will still fit my truck right? Thanks, DOOCE

yes that is for a 4x4 it is made for a 203 or 205 t case. it will hang down a few inches from your frame but i dont think that far.

You can see below on my 3/5 lowered truck, the 3" exhaust pipes are pretty low to the ground. I'm looking at 3/4 length headers and a custom built crossmember to raise them up a few inches.

Is that the same xmember I posted? I dont know why your headers hang down that low, mine are nice and tight to the cab and should clear that xmember setup just fine

My headers are Hedman Elite long tubes for a '73-'87 big block 2WD truck. The picture above is a little deceiving because of the camera angle. The collectors line up exactly with the large 'humps' in the crossmember. I have about 1/2" clearance from the top of the exhaust pipe to the crossmember. But that also means the bottom of the exhaust pipe is about 2-1/2" or so below the frame rail.

that one you have posted is for mounting a transfer case, not the trans.

The 4wd cross member is not going to work in a 2wd. The transfer case mount hangs down about 6"-8" below the mounting pad on the transmission case. You would need to have a large spacer for it to work.

I have Hedman long tubes and a double hump crossmember. It looks like Hedman made these specifically for this crossmember. It fits well and looks great, but I run stock ride height and intend to keep it that way. For the stock height, it's perfect. For a lowered truck, long tubes are going to hang too low no matter what you do.

As mentioned above, I would look into 3/4 length Chevelle headers and a custom made crossmember. That is the only way you will get the exhaust tucked up into the frame.

If you already have the headers, just build one to work. It doesn't take much, and you will know that it fits.
