Question
Okay here are 2 pictures of a truck. Some huge mods and some subtle ones. Is the front crossmember a custom one or has it just been welded and smoothed.

Is that truck the retarded one with duallys tucked under the box? As for the crossmember it looks like he cut the frame rails and welded it in.

yeah thats the gay one that has the dually's tuckin........73-87 wheel wells grafted and the sectioned hood...........in my opinion the guy spent alot of time on that truck and truned what could have bee a sweet lookin c-10 into the only chevy truck that i would let a ford guy drive!!

his dash pieces and guages are from an 89 as well...............the only thing i dig about this truck is his motor..still love a fully chromed and polished 502c.i. !!

I read the article when it was in Dec 2000 issue of Sport Truck. You have to appreciate the creativety and time that went into the truck, but I do agree that the effort outweighs the appeal. The only thing that I would consider using is the formed cutout for the side exhaust, and I like how he routed it through the frame for added ground clearance- I definitely could use that...

yeah billogna it does look sweet but i still prefer dumps, and i was not fond of the headlight conversion either?!?! JMHO
BRABRA: it looks as though it was notched and welded, however i can't see where they wrote anything about it. nor show a good enough picture to be sure

it looks to me that the crossmember is a stock one that he (for the lack of a better term) Channeled to fit the frame in or cut the frame and welded the crossmember in to add some drop. If this is so i like the idea. I dont get the dual wheels or headlights but as junkyardjohn says alot of work went into it and if the owner is happy with it then i cant knock him for it. After all it is a chevy.

yes i may be a tough critic, and yes the guy did do alot of work to the truck, and maybe if i owned my own shop, indy race team, etc. etc. like he does, my ride would look as clean as his is. but yet i am a young punk who works 2 jobs so i can build the best looking 68 in my town. but don't get me wrong, the cat did put alot of time and effort as well as money in the truck, i just don't see why he did some of the things that he did, other than to be different JMHO

Personally I think some people are a little more fortunate than others. The whole dual wheels in a single wheelwell aren't my flavor, but it's no sense in badmouthing other board members. Opinions are like A$$HOLES, everyones got one; if it doesn't suit you, sorry about your luck but they are entitled to it. I didn't start this thread for everyone to have a b!tch session. So cool it and get back to my question, was the crossmember smoothed, lowered? What?

Brabra, the bottom of the crossmember apears stock, howerver it it notched to lower the truck. It also appears that the frame is notched for clearance on the steer linkage. The lower a arms are also modified for the mounting spot on the sway bar......hard to tell from the pic, but my guess is that the a arms may also be step notched to lower. That thing is cool as hell! Do you have any shots of the eng comartment?

well if jealousy were a factor in that truck, then i would rather drive a ford...........as far as the work that went into the truck, yes you are right, the top names in the industry may have had a part in building it, but i still think it is ugly aka gay. just like when i see a 67-72 truck with an 88-98 bed on it, i just don't think all modifications done, look right on all vehicles, just like the dually wheels tucked under the bed? what would be the purpose of that other than being different? yeah i might pull up behind it one day and look at that and say damn that is kinda cool but if you were gonna go to that extent, why not put some fat meats back there? but the one thing i do respect is the attention to detail on this truck, most people wouldn't have gone to that extent. i just don't like the way the total package turned out. different strokes for different folks.......and as far as me being petty and jealous, now thats low! i could understand that comment if i was talking about your truck but i wasn't. i was stating my opinion about a truck neither of us own, and if the owner of the truck wants to talk to me about it fine!

Yeah I saw that truck in custom classic trucks (the one that reprints sport truck articles) and when I first saw the headlights I hated it, but that pic of it cruizing down the highway looks fu(k'n cool!! After seeing it in that light I might actually give my left testi to own. Not that I actually would I'm just saying I would consider it!!

NO matter what i think of the rest of the truck, I'd really like to know what he did with the windshield wipers? It looks like hes still got the sprayers in the highway pics, and i don't really see a gap between the cowl and windshield to tuck them in. OR did he just takes off the wipers for the pic and those are the splined shafts sticking up?

The crossmember has been notched into the framerails & then slicked up. It also has 'C' notches for the tie-rods as well. I think the exhaust on this truck is excellent. The attention to detail on the flanges & routing make all the difference.
As far as just dumping the exhaust, if your truck has a nice paint job you wouldn't want to dump it because it will stir up ALOT of dirt/dust that will get all over your nice paint & all over the bottom of the truck. The more you have to wash all that dirt off the faster your paints gonna get scratched. If the 'Best in the Industry' offered to do the same mods to my truck I would have to pass as some of the mods done aren't to my liking. But the overall fit & finish & attention to detail make me envious & I can only hope mine is as nice. This thing has a top fuel inspired rear-end complete w/polished center section & trick looking tubular ladder bars in the stock trailing arm locations, all of it slicked + flush mount glass, perfect body gaps, & rounded doors.

What have you guys got against duals on the inside? It would add traction without bad weather side affects. Easier to park. Bold. Subtle. Different. I think is looks good. Are skinny rears cool now? hmmm, weird... Pete.
