Has Anyone Ever Shaved The Air Vents On The Kick Panels?

good thought..I was just thinking about this today after I got off the phone with Vintage Air...I think I will shave mine to make some room for some kink panel speakers..

just wondering if you would remove the boxes on the outside too or just fill in the holes in the kick panels?

Yea but dont you like that fresh air coming in driving down the country highway? i love when i open them and leafs hit me in the face. It just goes with the truck

You could do it but wouldnt recomend it. As stuff gets caught down there and rusts that area out if not cleaned out. That is my thought. sick 69 love your avatar.

I was thinking of this and that same thought came to mind that crap in there will cause rust but if you make a big enough hole to let every thing fall trough wouldn't that help. Also planing on shaving wiper cowel (Sp?) so that wont be a problem. Or where else would things manage to settle in there??

thats why I was wondering if the outer boxes where being shaved as well. the cowl isn't sealed to the cab so even if the cowl is filled in there will be a "pocket" for water to collect, creating the perfect spot for rust. if the bottom of the boxes where removed there wouldn't be any place for the water to collect though.

If you are gonna run the heater or AC then the blower will have to have air from outside (cowl) or recirculate (kick panel)but I dont think you can block off both.If you open the pocket in the bottom of the cowl vent it will the leaves and debries fall in behind the fender which may not be bad because then you could blow it out

I should clarify: I have seen someone shave the inside vent flaps in the kickpanel. I don't think you can remove the outer box, it facilitates fitment of the fender, heater fan and the shape of the firewall.

You can stop the crap from getting in there if you just seal off the area of the cowl that lets crap fall in there, or just go with a shaved cowl (no vent slits in the cowl) then nothing can get in the damned thing in the first place). You'd need to allow water to drain through the barricade you make, though. My take is this: It's a lot easier to clean out the cowl than that stupid box!

I also saw someone on here make a "trap door" out of the box on the side for easy access to clean out debris. Cool idea.

I am just covering mine up with speaker panels.

The first time (and one of the only times too) my wife rode in the truck, she said it was hot, so she opened the passenger side up. Pine needles from who knows when came rushing into the cab and covered everything. She was not happy, I laughed.

I like the idea of some of you to just open the bottom up for more drainage, that would work and wouldnt be to bad of an idea on the stock trucks either. Id rather the stuff fall thru onto the fender than sit and rot in the cab.

Two words for most of you: trash guards. They really work! I just installed aset before fall, what a difference. Install those and sealing it up will probably be ok to with stock drain holes.

I have thought about getting the carpeted kick panels, which leave the vent exposed. Then I would buy those waterproof speaker enclosures from Crutchfield, build a standoff out of fiberglass to angle towards the driver/passenger and mount speakers in there. Does this sound like it might work? I know when I tore my cab apart, I had pine needles and a dead mouse inside the kick panels but I hope the truck will be better protected once I get it on the road again.

The thing is that I live in the middle of the desert where it's windy about 260 days a year thats why I'm just getting rid of them all together. But before that decision I thought about making the hole in to a circle and adding some vent like the ones that clothing dryers use to duct it to the out side of the bottom fender.

Just an idea.
