Removing dipstick tube
Anyone have any suggestions for removing a dipstick tube that doesn't want to budge? I'm trying to get the old headers off, and the dipstick tube is in the way. Have tried every thing I can think of, but I can't get it to move at all. The engine is still in the truck btw.

Re: Removing dipstick tube
they're so cheap to replace i normally just clamp them real good with vice grips and pound the visegrips with large hammer
you also need to make sure that you've removed the mounting bolt if it has one

Re: Removing dipstick tube
If you are not too concerned with saving it, I have taken vice grips, clamp onto the tube as low as you can, then take a hammer and hit the vice grips up, holding the outside part of the vice grips to keep it from just rotating on the tube.
If you need to save it, no help here.

Ya don't care about saving it I don't guess. I was trying to b4, but now I just want the darned thing OFF! So I'm taking off the proverbial gloves and gonna go to town! Wish me luck!
And to andresco50, that was the point of my thread.... it isn't coming out easy!

Re: Removing dipstick tube
Well, the vice grips worked! That stupid dipstick tube will trouble no one else! Now if I can just get those cantankerous "PO customized" headers out....

Re: Removing dipstick tube
Yeah, looking like some cutting may be in my near future. I don't know why, but I just hate destroying stuff. They've been beat to ****, so they probably wouldn't be of use on anything else. I guess I was just taught not to tear stuff up as a kid, and for some reason it stuck.
