Searched a few times but still have disc brake conversion questions
Mainly because I already have a nice set of 20s on my truck with 6 lug power discs. I want to stay 6 lug but I don't want to spend the money on the conversion kit. Are there any factory 6 lug disc brakes that will fit a 1969 c10 that I might be able to find in a scrap yard. Thanks

Re: Searched a few times but still have disc brake conversion questions
here's what you need to do:
Go to the junk yard and find a 2wd truck from the 88-9x generation with 5 or 6 lug brakes with heavy duty discs(thicker than 1 inch".) Swipe the spindles and caliper. Get new discs with 6 lug for the 88 and up truck(the 5 and 6 lug rotors are the same except for bolt pattern.) In these years, they started using both 5 and 6 luck for 2wd again for whatever reason. You will need to use a half ton upper a arm and a 3/4 ton lower a arm for 69 chevy truck with the right balljoints for the respective a arms since the newer spindle uses the 1/2 ton upper and 3/4 ton lower balljoint. There is a complete writeup on this on the site here somewhere so i am paraphrasing a bit just to give you an idea of what you need for this swap, but once it is done you just need to use heavy duty 6 lug rotors for an 88 truck from any parts store and, of course, the correct pads for the later caliper. I am at work right now so i am trying this fast but do a search and look for 88 and up brakes see what you find. Mike |

Re: Searched a few times but still have disc brake conversion questions
awesome found a lot of helpful info, I appreciate it.
One thing is though I can't seem to find the 67-72 lower 2500 a arms locally, any ideas as to whether or not 73-87 c20 lower a arms would work Last edited by chevyman95; 06-14-2011 at 06:32 PM. |
