Re: Does Anyone Have One Of These?
That is pretty cool if they can back up there info, wonder if it will work with transmissions too. If so, someone might save a lot of time and money by testing the oil of a used car prior to buying.

It says they are not shipping yet. Oct -Nov time frame. I saved it to favorites so I can check back. I'll try one for the $40.00.

I woudn't think it would matter on a used car unless you were getting it from an individual.most stealerships change the oil before they ever hit the lot.

Re: Does Anyone Have One Of These?
I had a Thermodynamics professor in college who had a '56 Chevy wagon 6 cyl strt. drive that he purchased new in 1956. At the time, (1965) it had 175k miles and had never had an oil change. He religiously changed the top mounted filter every 1000 miles, topped off the oil and drove it everyday. It purred like a kitten and showed no signs of problems. We were amazed! He preached that oil doesn't "wear out" it just gets dirty
. 'Course he also had an MGB with a full-on Stanley Steamer engine (but that's another story for another time.) |

Re: Does Anyone Have One Of These?
Always wondered if I realy needed to change oil as its glugging out of the drain hole looking as clear as it did the day I put it in. I just went by the old standard 3/3

Father of my best friend worked for Ma Bell(telephone) in the late 60's. He was in charge of a fleet operation. Said they never changed the oil. Only the filters. Then add some.

Re: Does Anyone Have One Of These?
"WaveOn Technologies introduces the first reusable consumer model motor oil tester" I used one in a fleet diesel truck shop 34 years ago! I dont remember who made it but it looked just about like the one shown. In the center of a half dollar sized plastic valley was a 3/8" dia. flat metallic surface that had an inner and outer ring. You would place a couple of drops of oil off the dip stick on the metal surface and a needle gauge much like an analog volt meter would indicate good to bad or green to red. Im sure it was either a resistance meter or perhaps a volt meter because when I (I'm a curious sort) touched a paper clip to the inner and outer metallic surfaces, the needle immediately jumped to the red witch indicated "Change" ...Clean oil barely moved the needle, black dirty oil is apparently conductive and would move the needle into the red zone. Thats not new technology. "just sayin" ;-)
