Thumbs up EUREKA! Buddy Bucket Score with Factory Shoulder Retainers!

I went on a parts hunt today and scored a set of Buddy Buckets from a loaded 68 GMC Custom Camper truck. I noticed that the seat cover pattern is different from the Chevy CST seats...this is the first set of GMC's I have come across. Also, it had Factory Shoulder Belts listed on the SPID (A 50) and the pillars were scratched showing they had been present at one time ...BUT the retainers were still present on the console! This topic has come up for discussion recently, and it was questioned whether or not an "additional" bracket was added to the retainers...these look factory to me, judging that they have the same wear/tear and surface rust as the rest of the mounting hardware on the seats and frame. The factory assembly manual shows the retainers mounted to the frame...but when I mocked up the NOS set of retainers I have to the frame, it was not practical at all. ALSO, this set of original retainers mounted to the console have the centers cut out, replicating the male end of the seatbelt, and the female buckles "click" into place and are solid...as opposed to the NOS mounts I have where the center is not cut out, and the buckles do not "click" into place.

Re: EUREKA! Buddy Bucket Score with Factory Shoulder Retainers!

Here are my NOS for comparison. As you can see, they won't even fit on the frame where the assembly manual shows them to be. The location on the center console makes much more sense, and the bracket between them and the console makes sense too!

Nice find Scott, that is the real deal you have found! Nice to finally have a picture and see the difference in the car style and what was really used on trucks.

I just bought a set of buddy buckets myself and they have the same brackets in the same location. I was wondering what they were for.

Good deal Scott, Good to know I didn't waste money buying some NOS ones that were said to be for 67-72 trucks a few years back. They have that metal bracket behind them. Trevor

Re: EUREKA! Buddy Bucket Score with Factory Shoulder Retainers!

Thanks! It was nice finding these seats...let alone the shoulder retainers! I did not have a camera with me, but the truck was rust/dent free, BBC 396 (the original motor was not in the truck), shoulder harnesses were gone, but there were faded lapbelts still present. The economy is finding a lot of these trucks coming "out of the woods" lately. It was here in So Calif, not anywhere near Fresno. I did get the center support..you can partially see it in 2 of the above pics.

Rene- I will see you guys at the same meeting spot. The CPP Cruise is gonna rock!

Re: EUREKA! Buddy Bucket Score with Factory Shoulder Retainers!

with buddy buckets the backing by the gas tank and behind the jack gets carpeted so they moved the jack stowage decal inside the console. If the truck has posi traction the decal for that goes right below the jack decal.

What's the difference in the seat pattern? Those are 1968 seats, they're different than 1967's because the inserts are narrow pleats verses the 67 wide pleats all the way across, but I don't see a difference between Chevy and GMC.

Yes, I onced removed a set out of a '66 Camper special. The hole arrangement is the same as a '67 Chevy truck from what I could tell.

Re: EUREKA! Buddy Bucket Score with Factory Shoulder Retainers!

i wonder if any trucks came with 4 retainers across the front of the console so the lap belt buckles could clip in as well or were they mounted somewhere else?
