Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

:
:
:

Update! Truck is SOLD! Buyer is going airbags!

Fast forward two weeks through fruitless searches on Craigslist, ebay, and here for a truck that fit my wants/needs....and most importantly...budget

I'm looking last night at the truck and my wife sits down next to me. She actually likes it at first glance (which is surprising because she only likes a few of the trucks I really like on here and up until now has only liked "shiny" trucks

She goes through craigslist checking out the other options and comes back to this truck...I call the guy to set a time to look at it this morning...

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

So I make the 35 minute drive this morning and get out into a light rain to look at the truck. First thing I see is a rust hole above the driver's window and I almost turned and walked away...but decided to look it over more. Next is a swiss-cheese front typical of 67 hoods...and I'm 99% leaving...

For some reason I just really like the truck. It has a cool vibe to it. The interior has a little patina and I plan to leave it that way (minus the privacy curtain, wood dome light/map light combo, and two speakerless speaker mounts )

The exterior has a great patina to the white roof and the faded/oxidized red paint. And it's a true 67 small window swb stepside with stock steelies...

The bad:
Rust over the windshield and driver's door.
Crease in driver's door from over-opening caused door skin to separate at top (easy fix-not rusty)
Passenger door bottom is gone
Rocker patch needed on driver's side
big patch needed on passenger side door bottom inner/outer
NO engine or transmission
set up for 3ott and I have an auto to go in it
Windshield cracked and foggy
Rusty front hood edge
Rusty fender cups
Small dry rotted tires
No exhaust
No radiator
No battery
Hacked wiring
rusty brake lines
Original (tired) suspension
cracked dash pad
cracked seat vinyl (good foam though and a nice cover I can sell)
Rusty rad support
Rusty inner fenders
dented grill
dented hood
Lots of extra screw holes inside and out...
antenna (hole)on back of cab (I have an idea for this)
PO sprayed black primer at all rusty areas then some bright orange marking paint (today obviously) as it was wet and running...
Parked since 1994

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Now the good and the overall pictures

Cool patina
Step bed is in GREAT shape!
Tailgate is solid and clean!
Solid floor
Solid original floor mat
Mostly solid cab supports (one small patch needed that I could see)
Inner rockers looked good but I'll check them out better later....but floor is clean at rockers...
Solid firewall/kick panels
driver's door looks good on bottom
Fenders just need cups
It's complete...not torn apart
correct belts work well
Solid foam on the bench (full foam seat)
Steelies painted to match
I mean come on......it's a 67 short bed stepside small window....
No hacked radio hole
did I mention cool patina on the interior and exterior?
Blank canvas for me
Perfect for a shop truck with door logos
I have most of the parts for it already
Extra parts I can sell (250-350 estimated)
$650 delivered to me...
...oh...and cool patina

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Now the plans for it...

Install my extra 350/350 combo (or 700r4 if I find a deal asap)
Re-wire it with good stock harnesses (I have)
Larger tires

drop it!!! (have all these parts)
drop a-arms with 2" lowering springs in front (now cupped a-arms with bags)
front sway bar (stock one I have with new rubber bushings)
all new shocks w/ relocators
rear bags with schrader valves.
drop blocks in rear so I can have more air in rear bags for comfortable ride
adj trac bar (went with super trac bar)

New wood in bed (patina'd most likely-I'll be using this!)
Fix rust
paint rust patches to match as closely as possible
replace windshield (I have 4 to choose from )
scrape stickers off rear window and get sticker residue and orange/black spray paint off og paint...
Nice used 67-70 style white front bumper
Paint rear bumper white (until I find a deal on a used white step bumper and another hidden hitch)
door logos (tbd- coming up with 67-72 restorations logo)
caps on the steelies (tbd and open to suggestions)
radio delete
lighter delete or power outlet for cell phone charger
tach dash
recovered bench (black or saddle---tbd and open to suggestions)
re-done 67 seatbelts
better wheel with nice horn cap
replace one missing door panel (hope PO finds it...if not I'll be looking...)

Finally....

...drive it and USE it

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Options I am considering for down the road or if a deal pops up:

Tilt column (van tilt likely to show this option and it's cheap )
A/C (high on the priority list if I get the extra cash or score a killer deal)
Hidden hitch behind patina stock stepside sport bumper (if I find deals)
considering a 72 front bumper I have tucked in tight with foglights custom in the holes to show those options
Buckets and console to show off my work
20" wheels (streeters or 338's in gray)
LS motor possible down the road
I want to use this as a rolling billboard basically so showing a bunch of custom options is high on my priority list once I get it on the road...

NOT painting it

The only way I'll sell this is
A) need the money (sadly this is a distinct possibility because of my constantly fluctuating income)
B) find an amazing deal on a 67 crew cab project

My ultimate Plan and my goal is to keep this as a parts hauler and also do a crew cab (shiny/custom/LS/show truck) as my future daily driver...but 1st things first....back to my build thread Project #1

It looks like a fun truck to build as a rolling billboard. I'll be following along. Good luck!

Yeah, it's not the easiest repair but it will be something to add to my resume

I'm changing a complete roof on my main project and I will use the good section of that cab as patches for this project. Hope to have it delivered Thursday according to the po

Sorry I couldn't tell you yes immediately earlier. I need to figure out this towing thing with the new truck. I don't know class I from class III but it looks like I'm going to have to switch to a real reciever before I pull anything. I think it still may be possible to pull a dolly but I'm not sure.
Glad you didn't scoop it up first I appreciate you willing to help...po is supposed to deliver it tomorrow night...

Yeah, I asked him before I took it on...he has done a couple of his own trucks and he's rebuilt several totalled scionxb's by taking a good front and a good back and making one good out of two totals...they look perfect when done and dmv approves them for resale so I figure if he can do that...he can handle a roof swap

I know a cool way to do the old patina wood for the bed, I did it to a old 54 chevy truck years ago.
