Stereo upgrade
I’m still using a old school trim shaft aftermarket stereo and looking to upgrade with out cutting my dash. I still want to install it in the factory spot but looking for outlets for a 4 channel amp. I’ve checked out retrosound and auto sound and was wondering what others have had good luck with?

Re: Stereo upgrade
I am getting ready to install (when the shop gets warm again) A Retrosound Hermosa into my 70. I have heard the Retrosound are way better than the others. It looks good quality. The only downside I have ever seen (and will deal with) is that it is not a single piece unit. You have to assemble it to fit your opening. It doesn't look like too bad a thing to do, but all I wanted is to be able to run my USB music sticks

Re: Stereo upgrade
I have also been swaying in the direction of the retro sound but the warranty is only 1 year the custom auto sound is 2 year and I have read good and both on each and hoping to get some current reviews.

Here is a post of mine in another thread. Oh, it has head up fine since installing it. My daughter LOVES plugging her iPhone (USB connection) into it for her music.

Re: Stereo upgrade
I just started toying with the idea of "hand assembling" parts, gutting, and modding an AM radio. I'm actually considering doing something modular-esc, using a breakout LCD FM screen behind the original screen printed plastic with the #s polished off where it'll sit. Adding breakout switches behind the black buttons and removing the mechanical dial stuff. Drop in an fm receiver, bluetooth module (most of which have sd card and USB slots), amplifier, then just button it up.
It's completely doable, I just wonder cost vs time vs new retrosound. |

Re: Stereo upgrade
Thirty plus thousand miles ago I installed a factory AM radio I had Gray Tayman convert. It has 4 channel output, AM/FM , USB input, and Bluetooth. Not as cheap as other options but to me it was worth it.

Re: Stereo upgrade
That is where I bought my Slider and Speakers from. I was on the fence between doing what you did or the Slider. I am glad I was about to find about Gray Tayman, he is a very nice fellow. He was the one that told me about Retrosound not being so good or at the very least there was a period they weren't good. Things changes and they could be a good by now.
